What is it about coming home from a trip or a vacation that makes me turn nostalgic? On the way home from Oklahoma, I was of course not ready to be home but looking forward to the next trip and reflecting on this one. So, here is what I want to share. If you are close to your parent or parents, and everyone is able, then take the trip. Take the trip, tell the stories, laugh at yourselves, and make the memories. For me, it’s take the time off away from work and never ever let the vacation days at work go to waste. I learned things about mom’s childhood and her parents while driving for hours in the car. On the last few miles of the trip, we stopped at our favorite grocery store. It was also mom and dad’s anniversary. Even though dad is gone now, he would have enjoyed the day…a day with mom doing the simple things of life. Enjoy the last few pics of the trip including another stop along Route 66 and the start of a watermelon festival in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma…where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain…so true! Mom and I had a lovely, relaxing day in Pawhuska. Yes, we saw all things related to Pioneer Woman AND we also ate good food, shopped a little, learned about the Osage tribe, and ended the night with ice cream and a stunning sunset. Also, we are staying in the historic Frontier Hotel formally known as the Triangle Building.

Mom and I hit the road today for one last getaway before the busy times of a new semester starts. First stop was in Stroud, OK along the historic Route 66. Route 66 will have its centennial celebration next year. Who wants to go on a Route 66 road trip next year to celebrate?

Travel Tip Tuesday!

Are you and some friends or family planning a short road trip? My mom and I are planning to hit the road later this week for one last getaway before the craziness of a new school year starts. Here are some ideas on how to make the most of every mile:

🗺️ Day 1: Hit the Road Early.
Start your journey at sunrise to beat traffic and catch those golden hour views. Plan 1–2 scenic stops and try not to overpack the day!

🧭 Day 2: Go Local.
Spend your middle day exploring one main destination. Try local food, visit hidden gems, and chat with locals for real insider tips. Stay tuned on how we chose to stay somewhat local on our trip.

🌅 Day 3: Scenic Route Back
Take a different road home! Add a quirky roadside attraction or a nature spot to stretch your legs and soak in the last vibes.

Just came back from a much needed overnight getaway with the best girls in the cutest little Texas town, Salado, and it did not disappoint. Just fyi, Salado is about 2.5 hours by car south of the DFW area.

🛏️ We stayed at the historic Stagecoach Inn. It is so charming, cozy, and full of character. The perfect blend of vintage vibes and modern comfort. Highly recommend the porch rocking chairs and the pool for some cooling off time in the Texas summer. 😍

🍽️ Dinner at the Stagecoach Restaurant was next-level. The appetizers of fried hush puppies were on point. My patty melt and onion rings were quite tasty.

🛍️ We spent the day strolling through the cutest boutiques and antique shops — everything from vintage treasures to handmade jewelry and stylish finds you can’t get anywhere else. Let’s just say… the car was a little fuller on the way home. 😉

How is it already August 1? A new month and a new chance to live out my word of the year - readiness! Here are some fun facts that I need to be ready for this month….

📚August marks the start of my 28th year as an educator and my 20th year of working in higher education. These are numbers that I just can’t believe.
🎉My oldest niece turns 18 and starts her senior year of high school. While I wish her the best of times over this next year, I also quietly wish for time to slow down!
🚙 I will take one more quick road trip before the craziness of a new semester starts. Be on the lookout for where I go.

Happy, happy birthday to my sweet mom! She turns 85 today and she is happy to tell people that fact! 😊 She is the best mom, grandmother, and kitty parent anyone can ask for!
