It's official, Shanty Creek will open on 12/11!
OPENING DAY ANNOUNCEMENT
After 4+ consecutive days without any snowmaking opportunities, including high temps yesterday in the mid-40s and steady rains today, we must wait to open the slopes of Schuss Mountain next week on Saturday, December 11th.
Snowmaking to Date: Because the overwhelming majority of our snow guns are mobile (that is, not tower-mounted) our approach is always to “heavy-up” in subsections of the hill. Then we get a lift and its runs opened safely with enough snow to overcome any inevitable mid-season thaws. We are currently set-up across 29acres to cover Purple, Yellow, and the Magic Carpet Beginner Area.
The guns have run for 82 hours and pumped approximately 7.5M gallons of water producing approx 1.3 ft (depth) over those 29 acres; our target is 3ft deep to open safely. Our infrastructure moves 2,000 gal of water per min, or roughly 91k gallons per day. So we will need another 110 hours, and we will have that opportunity starting this Saturday evening. The 7-day forecast is extremely good with several 24-hour back-to-back days and daily low temps in the teens for a few of those days.
Once Purple, Yellow and Magic Carpet areas are open, we will move snowmaking operations to get all of Pink’s slopes ready, while also closing the gap from Yellow across Blue to Pink and getting the Alpine Tubing Park ready. Then finally Red.
More details to come next week.
