A government partial shutdown has a bigger impact on boat captains and maritime professionals than most people realize. When federal agencies pause non‑essential operations, it creates real delays on the water.
Here’s what that means for us and many others in the industry:
⚓ Credentialing Delays
During a shutdown, the National Maritime Center and Regional Examination Centers slow down or close, which freezes merchant mariner credential (MMC) renewals. That includes captain’s licenses
🛥️ Vessel Inspections & Compliance
The Coast Guard continues essential operations, but non‑routine commercial vessel inspections and permit processing are put on hold. That can create bottlenecks for charter operators across Florida.
We’re sharing this to keep our community informed — and to remind everyone that many captains and crews are navigating these delays together. As always, we appreciate your patience and support while we wait for our renewal to clear. 💙
