On this Independence Day, I reflect on how one defines “patriotism”…
Wouldn’t that be something about supporting the country you live in?
If this is the case, then how can celebrating an act of rebellion and treason against your country be considered patriotism?
Those men in the hall in Philadelphia 248 years ago would have been executed for treason, had the colonists not eventually won “the American skirmish, when George lost the colonies”, and each of them knew it as they were signing the document.
So, today we celebrate an act of treason and dissent.
