Possibly the largest woodpecker in North America as there is speculation of whether the Ivory billed woodpecker still exists.
This Pileated woodpecker was 1.5 feet long! Always a magical sight to see, a symbol of journeying into the unknown

An August, Sunday Morning
5am, just before sunrise.
Upon arrival we heard wailing loons and bats chirping; we saw dancing fog blanketing the water, and shadowed oars and landscapes reflecting back to our eyes.
Our hearts
locked on a target
we paddled towards the the ominous wails, then slowly
emerging from the thickened fog
Closer and closer it came to us
we called back and forth...
close enough I could almost touch
we locked eyes
exchanged a song
and he ever so softly drifted back
into the fog...
A breakfast bunch
a heating sun
a heron on the corner near a small pond
What a way to start the day

We put out on the calming Kwanitekw and saw the elusive Green Heron!
Though not rare, they are hard to find as they are smaller then you may think, only 18 inches tall.
You can catch them wading along the shoreline of wooded marshes looking for food.
Green Herons often use tools such as feathers, and insects to catch fish, dropping them on the surface to entice the fish
When flying they can appear to be at least twice as big as when they are wading, hence their elusiveness.
A beautiful bird with dark green wings and a chestnut chest with white streaks in the front; their brightly colored legs are also a key identifer. Happy birding!

We went on a night time kayak float to see the fireworks reflect off the water and silhouette the families watching on the bridge. Brought some food and drinks and had a great time! Join us next year if you missed out this year!

Hey FB Followers! I just want to say thank you to all of you who have supported me by liking and following my page!Over time I have been giving friends and family tours of the special gems on VT and have been pushed towards following a dream of mine in opening up my own tour guide company!
We have our first tour coming up next weekend, and I will be sure to update you all on how it goes!
I would really appreciate if you all could write me a review on google and FB though! This way I can get more noticed by the outside world!
Eventually I would love to partner with a local non profit called Friends for Change that works with youth in our community I would love to be able to give them an outdoor experience that they might not ever get the chance to have on their own.
