Go beyond the iconic Okavango Delta and discover the otherworldly allure of the Makgadikgadi Pans on a luxury Botswana safari. This vast, shimmering expanse offers a truly unique safari experience and stands among the most remarkable Botswana travel destinations. Once part of an ancient lake larger than Switzerland, the Makgadikgadi salt pans now present a landscape unlike anywhere else in Africa.

Today, the terrain shifts from stark, lunar-like plains to open grasslands, dotted with distant palms and horizons so expansive they seem to reveal the earth’s curvature.

Wildlife thrives in this surprising environment. Large herds of zebra and wildebeest, part of Botswana’s remarkable zebra migration, graze along the grassy fringes, while curious meerkats of the Makgadikgadi Pans delight visitors with their playful, upright stance. These rich wildlife encounters make it a standout destination for those seeking a Botswana safari beyond the Okavango Delta.

A journey here promises rare wildlife sightings, cultural experiences, and some of the most unique safari landscapes in Africa. Each of Next Adventure’s handcrafted itineraries is designed to showcase the very best of a Botswana wildlife safari. Located on a beautiful island in the Jao Concession in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Jacana is a typical Delta camp. Surrounded by seasonally-inundated floodplains and papyrus swamps, Jacana has five en-suite Meru-style tents, built on raised wooden decks to take advantage of the views of the broad channels in front.

The main dining area is on an elevated platform nestled between two magnificent sycamore fig trees, surrounded by dense wild date palms, with a large viewing deck and open seating area around the fire. Being a ‘water camp,’ Jacana Camp offers primarily water activities with game drives during the summer months.

Glide seamlessly along the waterways of Jacana in a mokoro (a traditional dug-out canoe and spot some of the small fascinating creatures of the Delta – maybe even hippo and crocodile – as well as the wealth of waterbirds of the region. Or take a trip in 9-seater or 8-seater boats in the waterways to the east of camp for good game viewing in the channels further away.

Ready to experience the magic of Botswana’s Okavango Delta? Let Next Adventure craft your Delta itinerary, where tranquil waterways, intimate luxury, and unforgettable wildlife encounters await. From serene mokoro excursions to thrilling game viewing by boat, this is safari at its most immersive.

A few members of our team spent an eye opening day in Johannesburg back in March, with a powerful stop in Soweto. Their guide, born and raised in Soweto, walked them through the streets he grew up on and is now raising his own family in, sharing stories of resistance, hope, and the deep history that shaped this township.

Soweto has faced immense hardship, yet today it stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, pride, and possibility, and it is also home to Nelson Mandela’s former residence. Here, you can learn more about the time he and Winnie Mandela spent in Soweto and the role this community played in South Africa’s struggle.

If you find yourself with extra time in Johannesburg before heading off on safari, adding a city tour that includes a visit to Soweto with a local guide is a meaningful way to connect with South Africa’s past and present, and an experience you will never forget.

Today we celebrate World Turtle Day 🐢 a reminder of the quiet resilience and beauty of one of the ocean’s most ancient travelers.

From the shores of Zanzibar to the coastlines of South Africa and beyond, sea turtles play a vital role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. Yet, they face increasing threats from habitat loss, pollution, and unsustainable tourism practices.

At Next Adventure, we believe travel should protect what it celebrates. That’s why we champion wildlife conservation and responsible tourism, supporting experiences that respect natural habitats, partner with local communities, and help preserve these incredible species for generations to come 🌍💙

Chitabe Lediba, in the Chitabe Concession, neighbors the Moremi Game Reserve in the south-eastern part of the Okavango Delta. Its wide range of habitats makes for an equal diversity of wildlife sightings. Views over the floodplains give ample opportunities to watch the daily animal traffic. Beyond the camp, Okavango and Kalahari landscapes meet to form rich habitats.

The Chitabe Concession covers 22 000-hectares (54 363-acres) of pristine Okavango Delta wilderness. This unique area harbors a massive variety of habitats within close proximity giving rise to a surprising diversity of species. The mix of Okavango and Kalahari makes for an excellent home to an abundant array of herbivores: giraffes, buffalos, red lechwe, tsessebe, impala and elephants, which in turn support the larger predators: lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, cheetahs, and African wild dogs.

At Next Adventure, we use many terms throughout our custom itineraries and communications with our travelers so we thought it would be useful to now and then explain some common terms you'll encounter when you work with us to design your dream safari.

Safari Lingo Word: Tracker 🐾

Many of the camps we work with, particularly in Southern Africa, have both a tracker and guide in the vehicle with guests. Usually, the tracker sits on a little seat that flips up at the front of the vehicle so he/she can get a better view of the bush. The idea is that a tracker spots the signs of wildlife like footprints, s**t, or other telltale clues and gives the information to the driver-guide. This way the guide can focus on driving safely (on those crazy African roads and tracks) and conversing with guests. Trackers are often local villagers (or even sometimes reformed poachers) who know the terrain and wildlife movements intimately.

🌊 Victoria Falls was THUNDERING back in March when CEO & Co-founder Kili and Office Manager Jessica visited! 🌊

The Zambezi River stays massively powerful post-rainy season peak, unleashing epic cascades across its full width, towering mist visible from miles away, and that unforgettable roar. This video from the Zimbabwe side captures our total immersion in the spray (ponchos essential!).

Victoria Falls is absolutely phenomenal right now, but the experience varies by season. Here's what to expect:

Maximum Power (March–May): Raw force at its peak. Expect thick mist, constant thunder, frequent rainbows for dramatic magic. Expect to get soaked with limited visibility in the heavy spray. [video reference]

Balanced Views (June–August): Strong flows, far less spray for crystal-clear panoramas and comfy, cooler temps. The ultimate all-round season.

Adventure Mode (September–November): Lowest levels reveal rock faces and gorges perfectly. Prime for Devil’s Pool, rafting, and exploring geological wonders up close.

Which season calls to you? 🦒✨

Luxurious Vumbura Plains is set within a remarkable landscape where water channels and dry savannah converge, creating one of the Okavango Delta’s most diverse ecosystems. This rich environment supports an abundance of wildlife, allowing for a truly immersive safari experience both on land and water. Guests can explore by 4x4 vehicle, mokoro, or boat, each offering a unique perspective of this pristine wilderness.

The camp is divided into two intimate yet connected sections, together hosting just 14 elevated suites. Each spacious room features a contemporary design with thoughtful touches, including indoor and outdoor showers, en suite bathrooms, private plunge pools, and shaded salas, perfect for unwinding while watching wildlife pass by or indulging in a soothing in room massage.

Twice daily game drives take place in open 4x4 Land Rovers, with a maximum of seven guests per vehicle to ensure comfort and uninterrupted views. Night drives, guided by expert trackers using spotlights, reveal the Delta’s elusive nocturnal species, adding another layer to this exceptional safari experience.
