This house is amazing! We came to Bethel for our daughters wedding and stayed at this beautifully appointed home. You couldn’t have asked for a better setting to bring family together to celebrate this important occasion.

We were welcomed with a beautiful basket in celebration of the bride and groom filled with locally produced sweets and breakfast items. The basket itself was a labor of love.

The house was immaculate. It was incredibly well stocked and totally organized. It was as though I was in my own home. If you went to look for something, it was always where you expected it to be. Not a detail was missed.

Every bedroom had a separate bath and each one was stocked with pretty towels and top of the line amenities, including nice robes. In each bedroom there was a multi-port charging station on the bedside table, a thoughtful touch that was appreciated. The bedding was soft and cozy. Almost every room had a fan.

The bridal suite was over-the-top. The dressing area had tons of lighting, a make-up table and 3 salon chairs for hair and make-up. The bedroom was enormous and so pretty which made a pretty setting for the bride and bridesmaid photo shoot!

There was a ton of room for us to spread out and lounge between the living room, family room, office and recreational area. We arrived on Wednesday for a weekend wedding and a few of us had to work. The space allowed for us to find a quiet spot to take calls and setup our laptops. The internet worked perfectly.

The cooks kitchen had everything you could ever need to entertain a large group. After a few days with 2 dishwashers in the kitchen, I am not sure how I ever got along with just one at home. Every pot, pan and appliance you can think of was easily found in a cabinet or drawer. The dishes, glasses, pots, pans and serving pieces were abundant and beautiful. No miss-matched tag sale items anywhere to be found.

The “kids” took advantage of the rec room and enjoyed some pretty vigorous foosball, air hockey and ping pong. Young or old, there was something to entertain.

It was it was a wedding event-filled October weekend so we never had a chance to use the hot tub. But, we loved the house so much we want to return!

Thank you John & Cynthia for sharing your perfect home with us.

John & Cynthia – Thaddeus Twitchell House
My family couldn’t love this house more! Our group of adults of various ages stayed here over MLK weekend this year (2021) and had a blast. During the day, some of us skied and others of us relaxed at the house. But even those of us who looked forward to hitting the slopes each day wished we could somehow do both! The house's location is central without being busy – the slopes, stores/equipment rental shops, and plenty of food options are all short car rides away. But it's hard to pull yourself away even for a quick trip! Every room in the house is inviting. Every bedroom is spacious, private, and comfortable. The kitchen, complete with all the appliances, flatware, and utensils you could ever need, is perfect for those who like to socialize while they cook (we even had a lamb feast one night!). There are multiple bonus rooms for people to play games, do some quiet reading away from the group, and/or put in a few remote work hours. The living room is sunny (but not too!), accommodating, and the ideal room for playing board games or watching football in front of a fire. In general, everything in the house from the furniture to the kitchen appliances are high quality and immaculately clean. The hot tub fits 6+ people comfortably, is easy to access, and is safe for people of all ages. Best of all, the hosts are some of the nicest, most attentive (but not too!) people you’ll ever meet – they truly want to make sure your visit is the best it can be, and it’s clear that making you happy makes them happy. We consider ourselves lucky for having found this gem and hope to keep coming back year after year!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Thaddeus Twitchell house. Very enjoyable to come to Maine to get away from months of quarantine. Owner was very accommodating and communicative and the property is very well maintained and stocked with most everything you will need. Loved our time by the pool!

Attentive owners make a difference!

This was our second visit, and we are already making plans to come back! The home is huge and wonderful and clean but the biggest draw for us is the owners. They communicate well, have great attention to detail and are still improving the house! Far and away the best we've ever dealt with on VRBO. The game table with Roulette was a family favorite for this trip! Cant wait to go back again!

Vacay in the time of Corona

This house was just what we needed. A place where we could gather a larger group, and stay safe, cook wonderful meals with room for all to eat together. There was space for everyone to spread out and enjoy each other's company playing board games in one room and video games in another while also being able to gather in the pool, or around the dinner table. From here we were able to visit some wonderful watering holes and beautiful hikes. It was EVERYTHING we hoped it would be. And with 12 girls, all of the bathrooms were appreciated!

A perfect place to quarantine!

The first impression we had of this amazing property was how closely it matched what was portrayed on the website, which is not always the case. This home was beautifully appointed and maintained. Upon entry we had the chore of unloading all of our provisions for a group of 15 family members, ranging in age from 72 to 3. It became apparent quickly how much space there was in the kitchen. Our family is used to bringing with us all we need to prepare the various family recipes, including all of the associated cooking gear. We were pleasantly surprised that everything that we needed was already there. Wish we had known earlier! Every bedroom was beautifully appointed, and each had a bathroom, which served our group perfectly. As a family home, it was easy to imagine a large family growing up in it. A dining room large enough to seat every one, living rooms with sufficient seating, a sitting room for reading or working on the computer, and a game room that was equipted with ping pong and air hockey, plus a large tv and a sitting area. The home was really amazing. The outside pool area with the hot tub was the most used space in the home. It was used non stop from 9 in the morning to 9 at night. The hot tub provided a great respite from all the games that were played. The screened in area was a great addition to escape from the night time mosquitoes. What was most amazing was the amount of different seating and conversation areas. No matter how much family loves one another, it is great to be able to put a little distance between them sometimes! From the flat screen tvs in just about every room (including the kitchen!) to the over abundant towels provided for each bedroom and the pool area, to the grills (two high end grills), to the extra propane, to the complete set of dishware and drinking glasses, to the utensils for cooking, to the commercial grade range in the kitchen....we could not have been happier. And of course, given the time of year, our family really appreciated the air conditioning with controls in every room. We were very pleased, and John was available always to answer every question we had. We had a great time!

Best Rental Experience

I booked this place for a girls getaway weekend with 9 other friends. The house is even better than the pictures! Walking into the kitchen I was blown away by how large the space was, the updated appliances and all of the available kitchenware. The large dining room and living room were the perfect places to hang out all together. Everyone was blown away they each had their own bedroom and bathroom. I feel like that is almost unheard of for rental properties. Lastly, the pool area is amazing! There are lots of loungers and tables for everyone and the hot tub was great to end the nights together. John & Cynthia were the nicest and most professional rental hosts I’ve ever dealt with. I felt completely comfortable speaking with them throughout the weekend with questions that arose. I can’t count how many times everyone in our group said how amazing the house was and how wonderful the owners were. We will definitely be back!

Amazing!

We booked a weekend for a family of 13. The house was beautiful, spacious and everything we could of hoped for. The pool was perfect for the kids (and adults). We were able to all have our own rooms (almost all with TVs) and each have our own bathroom. The kitchen was huge and perfect for cooking for large families. The grill worked great and had extra propane tanks. Perfect home! While we were staying there if anything came up John was very responsive and kind. His generosity and care for his visitors really shined through. The house was 20 minutes from the mount Washington auto trail and attractions in the mount Washington national park. We would definitely book again! The only two things from our wish list was a fire pit in the back yard and missing my little fur baby at home. Regardless we had an incredible time!

Families party

Fantastic property for an away-from-home gathering of close friend/families! Kids played in the pool all day so adults could take turns working from home. Short hikes in the nearby hills, and a kayak trip down the river were picture-perfect. nearby jogging and walking trails kept everyone active after long evenings of homemade meals from the superbly equipped kitchen, enjoying drinks outside watching fireflies on the back lawn.

Wonderful gathering space

Our multigenerational family gathered together to spend a few days at this lovely property. John and Cynthia checked in with us in advance of our stay to help us know about their proactive considerations for COVID (we felt very reassured by the measures they are taking for guest safety), answer any questions we had, and to offer some suggestions on things to do. Needless to say, the sense of welcome and attentiveness carried through the entirety of our experience. The house was well equipped — not only with the basics, but all the extras! Plenty of kitchen items, towels, board games, etc. The house was clean, beds were comfortable, and the history of the house was celebrated in character and charm within. Being summer at the time of our visit, the pool and spa were highlights! We visited nearby Step Falls and drove up Mt. Washington — both relatively close by. All in all, we are grateful to John and Cynthia for sharing their space with us and we made some amazing family memories together. Highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing stay!!!

We just recently stayed in this amazing place this past weekend and I gotta tell ya it was much more enjoyable than what we expected. All the rooms, kitchen, game room, hot tub, pool I mean everything about this place was absolutely amazing! All amenities where up to date, and one of guest child enjoyed the X-box and fairly new games. We found and read books about the history of the Thaddeus Twitchell house and shared moments with the old picture frames around the house. All guest where pleased and excited and we all enjoyed the whole house. John “the owner” was on point with all answers and a huge quick help when we needed it. We Thank you John and Cynthia for letting us stay in this amazing historical house! We will never forget the memories HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! YOU WON’T REGRET!

Thaddeus Twitchell house was ideal for our group of 16. With 8 immaculate spacious rooms, each couple had their own bathroom with exception to one of the downstairs rooms that had a half bath. The living room had 2 very big comfortable couches for several to sit in front of the fire while watching some football on the large screen TV. Or you could nestle in the living room with a smaller group. The dining room was huge allowing our large group to gather for cards and LRC (left right center) or a big meal. Not to forget to mention and oversized kitchen with seating for 9 at table and counter. Laundry room with half bath. Hot tub which was fun for the teens Or adults after a day of outdoor activities. Never got to try the outside pool with screened gazebo (during the 8-10 inches of snowfall)
Last but not least, there were lots of nearby restaurants and out door activity. Quaint friendly town!
The owners were open for contact at any time and were eager to answer any questions about the area.
I give Thaddeus Twitchell a 10!

This home was just what our family needed! With our daughter getting married just next door at the 1888 barn wedding venue, the house became a hub for the wedding party. It had all the amenities we needed and more, with bathrooms in every bedroom of the house and a salon station in the suite. The home was clean, well stocked and decorated beautifully and would be excellent for any large party gatherings, did we mention dog friendly! The hosts for this property were very accommodating and quick to respond. A beautiful location not far from Sunday River or downtown Bethel, and lovely in the fall.
Thaddeus Twitchell House Thank you so much for your kind words. As new owners of the property, we strive to exceed the expectations of our guests and we are grateful that we fulfilled your needs and provided a beautiful house for a beautiful couple. Congrats, John and Cynthia

We are a group of college "friends" that began our reunion trips in 1985- well after graduating! We started with camping and raising children and once the kids were grown, we made the move to more comfort! The house has 8 bedrooms each with its own name -7 bedrooms have ensuite bath with at least a shower - 1 double bedroom with toilet and sink. There is an additional sink and toilet in the laundry room. The living space is numerous with large living room, a smaller den, and dining table t seat 12 (table cloths provided!). Kitchen has additional seating for 6 at a table and 3 hightop chairs at the island. The kitchen is well appointed and provided everything our "gourmet chefs" needed. The pool deck area provides generous space for lounging and cocktail hour festivities and includes a screened in area and a hot tub. The pool is all one depth, just under 4 feet and lots of fun.
We had some minor issues with the air conditioning and getting the pool ready. However, the owners and their support teams were very responsive and supported our needs. I wrote to the owners after our stay to provide feed back and again, they were very grateful for feedback.
It is a lovely house and convenient to Bethel and year round activities in the area. There is a wedding venue next door, so this would be a great house to rent if someone in your family plans a wedding there! The Bridal Suite includes a brides dressing make-up area!
Great time as always for our group!

Owner's Response:
R. Faye Geisel-
We are very pleased that your reunion of friends was so enjoyable at the Thaddeus Twitchell House. We are new owners of the property since October 2019 and we discovered this investment property when we were with family at a reunion of sorts in the area and so it became our dream to make this experience special for other people. Cooking and spending time in the kitchen are important to us and so we wanted you to know that we added additional appliances and accessories such as a food processor, rice steamer and mixer to the previously well stocked kitchen. We also removed all the window air conditioning units and replaced it with ductless central air throughout the home so any future issues with air conditioning might be avoided. We hope that our home will become the spot of your future reunions and we can become part of your traditions.
Fondly,
John and Cynthia Wissocki

A shuttle picks you up at our house, brings you to the ski resort and drops you back off at our house. No need to pack up your gear in the car and drive.
