Our friends at The Gap Partnership are bringing back two of Big Stone Gap’s favorite fall challenges on Saturday, September 26, and there’s something for both the little cubs and the full-grown grizzlies! 🐻

The morning starts with The Cub Run, a one-mile obstacle course designed for ages 5–12 at Bullitt Park. Registration begins at 9:00 AM, with the run kicking off at 10:00 AM.

Then at 1:00 PM, it’s time for The Big Stone Gap Grizzly Obstacle Run set up just outside of the Big Stone Gap Visitor Center. Expect mud pits, wall climbs, rope challenges, water crossings and a very good chance you won’t finish looking quite as clean as you started.

Whether you’ve got a little adventurer ready to tackle the Cub Run or you’re feeling brave enough to take on The Grizzly yourself, September 26 is the day to get outside, get dirty and have some fun in Big Stone Gap🐾

We are excited to host another bike night with Black Horse Cycles this Saturday, August 29th from 6-10 pm. It's going to be another one for the books! Make sure you put it on your calendar and stop by for some fun! 😜

The road infront of the restaurant is being closed down to make room for all of the hot rods. Victor Lawson and Boogie Chillen will be coming down to play live music outside. Look out for all of the raffles and make sure you catch that door prize. 🎟️🎁

The Leigh Ann Bolinsky Memorial 5K Walk/Run returns to Big Stone Gap on Saturday, September 12, with proceeds benefiting the Mountain Laurel Cancer Support & Resource Center.

This annual event honors the memory of Leigh Ann Bolinsky, who served as director of the Mountain Laurel Cancer Support & Resource Center and dedicated herself to helping individuals and families facing cancer.

Big Stone Gap is proud to welcome the 2nd Annual Michael D. Chandler Car Show on Saturday, August 22! 🚗🏍️

This year’s show is moving to Downtown BSG on Wood Avenue East near the Big Stone Gap Visitor Center to make room for an even bigger lineup of classic cars, muscle cars, Jeeps, motorcycles, trucks, and more.

The show runs from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, with awards presented after 6:00 PM. Registration is $20 per car or bike, and each registered participant will receive one entry for a chance to win a brand-new 350 engine from O’Reilly Auto Parts! Participants must be present to win.

There will also be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, giveaways, and awards including Best in Show, Top 10, Best Motorcycle, Best Classic Car, Best Truck, Best Jeep, and Knight Rider’s Choice.

Most importantly, all proceeds benefit the Michael D. Chandler Memorial Endowed Scholarship, which supports students pursuing careers in law enforcement and corrections at Mountain Empire Community College.

Come spend the afternoon in downtown Big Stone Gap, check out some incredible vehicles, and help honor the memory and legacy of a local hero. ❤️

A special piece of Big Stone Gap history now has a permanent place of recognition in the heart of our town. ❤️

On Saturday, August 8, community members, former students, local leaders, and town officials gathered in front of Big Stone Gap Town Hall to dedicate a new historical marker honoring James A. Bland High School, which once stood on the site where Town Hall is located today.

James A. Bland High School holds an important place in the story of Big Stone Gap. The educators who taught there, the students who walked its halls, and the generations of families connected to the school helped shape our community in lasting ways. Many former students went on to build successful careers, serve their communities, and make an impact well beyond Southwest Virginia.

We are grateful to everyone who worked to make this historical marker possible and to all those who joined us for the dedication. Thank you to our town officials, community leaders, former students, families, and friends who came together to recognize this important chapter of Big Stone Gap’s history and the legacy of those who were part of James A. Bland High School.

We hope everyone will take a moment to stop by Town Hall, see the marker, and learn more about the people and history it represents.
