There’s something sacred about slowing down together at Deetjen’s.
Over breakfast, between bites and long conversations, we come back to the heart of why we’re here, whether its sharing ideas, dreaming up what’s next, and finding new ways to tell the story of this place we love so deeply. Whether it’s imagining future items for guests, capturing imagery that reflects the richness of Deetjen’s history, or simply walking the property and reconnecting with one another, it all begins the same way: gathered, present, and in conversation.
These moments are what shape everything we create.
Recently, our GM Matt received a deeply meaningful piece from Brother David…an artwork that carries decades of history. Titled “Mystic” by Mike Anderson Moriarty (1973), it had been in Brother David’s care for over 30 years. It was originally given to him by Ed Guardian, who dropped it off before traveling to Hawaii to visit his wife, where he would later pass.
Now, it finds its place here again woven into the ongoing story of Deetjen’s.
This is what it’s about. Holding history. Sharing it. And continuing to tell it, together.
