It is with great sadness we learned Wayland Rennie passed away recently. Wayland and his wife Margaret were long time supporters of camp as well as members of the folk dance club in Richmond. Laurie Rennie was Lee Ann’s best friend growing up. Living just one block apart they were constant additions to each families dinner table, excursions, and all manner of gatherings. Wayland taught carving at camp having mastered the trade often carving water fowl which he studied as he sailed the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.

We are so sad that Folk Camp had to be cancelled this year because of hurricane damage, but the Bannerman family is still going to dance! Come join us Friday evening after Thanksgiving for a barn dance in Montreat. Everyone is welcome! Bring all your friends!

We wanted to give an update on our family in the Ashville, Swannanoa and Black Mountain areas. All are safe. All homes are standing.

Beth, Bruce and Mary Evelyn are able to exit the mountain they live on and will head to VA in the next few days. Brooke will also try to leave the area. Lee Ann and Jasper have set up shop in an out of town hotel to communicate with the 200 properties under their care. Casey, Tyler, Jane and Craig have become helpers in giving their time and expertise. Tamara and Thomas have been without power in the Charlotte area but hope it returns today. Justin and Stacia sustained minor damage in Panama City. Reid Kirkpatrick arrived in Black Mountain today with a 20' truck full of supplies from VA.

Thank you to everyone reaching out and asking. We are incredibly heartbroken for the valley we call home. We will be sharing updates as they come.

Registration is OPEN!! We are ready to welcome you to camp and encourage you to register EARLY (rates increase after Oct. 1st!). Again this year you will note that there are TWO housing options. The rooms in Blue Ridge that house 4 people per room are $320 for the weekend. We have added rooms in Asheville Hall that house between 2-4 per room and are $212 for the weekend. We try to make things as simple as possible so the participant fee includes your meals, facility fee and program fee. If you have any questions, please contact us at: [email protected]
