You may be wondering how Port Commissioners learn about the Port and the role they serve.

On June 2, the Port will hold a candidate briefing session for individuals considering a run for Port Commission.
The session will cover the Port’s operations, the role and responsibilities of Commissioners, compensation, and the timeline involved in being a candidate. Port staff will also be available to provide insight and answer questions to help candidates better understand the role.

This briefing is intended to give those considering candidacy a clear understanding of the position and help them feel prepared to serve.

Today we pause. 🇺🇸

The Fallen Soldier Table, one place setting, never filled. A white tablecloth for purity of their intentions. A black napkin for the grief of their families. A single candle for the light they'll never see again. A red rose, because we hope they're coming home, and a folded flag, because they did. Just not the way we prayed for.

The price of freedom is written in names we'll never forget. Over 630,000 Americans who gave everything so we could have this day, this life, this country.

Memorial Day isn't about the sales or the cookouts, it's about them.

Take a moment today. Say a name. Say thank you.

Happy Memorial Day weekend, Blaine! 🇺🇸

As we kick off summer with friends and family, let's keep at the heart of it what Memorial Day is truly about, honoring those who gave their lives so we could live ours freely.

If you're looking for ways to observe the day, many local ceremonies are happening across the county. Take a moment, lay some flowers, fly your flag, or simply say thank you to a Gold Star family in your community.

From our little corner of the Pacific Northwest to those buried far from home, we remember.

As a Blaine City Councilmember, I've had the opportunity to sit down with Ryan Swinburnson, Candidate for Whatcom County Prosecutor on multiple occasions, and I can tell you, he's different. Not just in résumé, but in vision.

Ryan brings over 26 years of legal experience, having worked both sides of the courtroom as a prosecutor and defense attorney. He's a Whatcom County native, a Blaine High School alum, and currently serves as President of the Blaine School District Board. He understands this community because he is this community.

What sets Ryan apart is his fresh thinking on training, leadership, and programs our county simply doesn't have yet. His approach is nonpartisan, no agenda, just a genuine commitment to making our Prosecutor's Office more effective, more transparent, and more accountable to everyone it serves.

Ryan Swinburnson is the leader Whatcom County needs. I'm proud to endorse him.
