Isn't this the greatest DC suggestions from Davis County Iowa Welcome Center?? This response was to a local couple Stories & Strings wanting a date getaway staying in Davis County
Take a tent to Lake Wapello or McGowan or Lake Fisher and camp, swim, hike, rent a boat, go fishing, take some great photos, picnic on the terrace. Very romantical if you're outdoorsy. Get an ice cream treat at the Frozen Oval in Drakesville or Elena's in Bloomfield, or a free one at Dutch Country. Go swing at any of the parks. Go to the Davis County Fair one evening, ride the Ferris wheel, win each other prizes as the Midway, take in the free shows and exhibits. Hold hands on the Midway. Each take your favorite book to the library and read together. Pretend you're in high school study hall and pass notes without Ann or Deb seeing you. Go to the Southeast Produce Auction on Tuesday or Friday, have a doughnut and enjoy the show. Attend the Old Settler's Reunion in Drakesville at the end of the month, watch the parade and the talent shows, have something yummy to eat. Smooch each other under the trees. Go shopping and see who can find the best bargain. Purchase it as a souvenir of your fun together. Borrow tennis rackets and play a set at the tennis courts near the elementary school. Pretend you are Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King. Get a day pass at the Mutchler Center and work out together. Each splurge on a local spa treatment. Visit a local cemetery, read the gravestones and see who can find the earliest birthdate, the coolest name, someone who was born in "the old country". Visit one of the local restaurants and pick something from the menu that you've never had. See if you like it. Or, do a progressive meal where you have an appetizer at one place, a main course at another, and dessert somewhere else. Take lots of selfies together. Most importantly, enjoy and savor each other and all the other beautiful opportunities in Davis County.
I think there's a few good trips in there! And a great time to stay cool at the Ellis House 😉
