Chester, Illinois, county seat of Randolph County, IL, is known for being the home of E.C. Segar, creator of Popeye the Sailor Man ⚓, and maybe lesser known for having a posh and melodic fountain inside of their otherwise unassuming courthouse. The courthouse also has vintage mobile shelving, plus a nice view of the Mighty Mississippi! There are a few monuments near the courthouse of the characters from Segar's famous Popeye comic strips and cartoons. Did you know he modeled his characters, like Popeye and Olivia Oyl, after real residents of Chester?
