Project Chimps in Morganton (30 min drive from Aska Pines) is a chimp sanctuary where 95 chimps live. They were rescued from aggressive medical testing and now have lots of room to roam and live good lives. It’s open for tours twice/ year or private group tours up to 20 people for $500. Very worthwhile.

Aska Pines has a new resident- Hootie Who! This lamp was given to me for Christmas when I was around 12 or 13 years old. My mother had kept it hidden away for 50 years and recently on a visit to see her she showed me this crazy owl lamp that had been in storage for so long. The cabin is the absolute perfect spot for this lamp and what’s more is that I ended up with a man who’s crazy about owls and even has built our houses for our own owl house. Say hello to Hootie Who.
