Beaufort closed its famous promenade fronting the Beaufort River — the city’s “front porch” — Monday morning for public safety reasons after getting a report over the weekend that said the platform structure underneath it was “overstressed.”

Waterfront Park remains open as the closure primarily targets a 40-foot-wide, 1,200-foot-long stretch on the water’s edge side of the park, basically the entire length of the promenade.

The decision to close the area came after the city received a structural analysis of the park at 6 p.m. Friday

This closure comes days before the 4th of July and days before the 10-day Water Festival event centered around this area.

This is sure to have serious impacts for the businesses along the waterfront; therefore, anyone who is able to help support them during this time is needed. This is what supporting local is all about!

The Closure is expected to continue for quite some time.

Hilton Head makes changes to the weekend $20 flat rate parking on the island.
After 3 months, Hilton Head changed weekend parking rates. No more $20 flat rate, now $5 per hour. The town council voted to eliminate the daily caps on parking fees at their Tuesday meeting. Great news for short visits (3 hours or less) to the beach; however... bad news for all-day beach goers.

Effective June 24, 2025
Parking fees are $3 per hour, Monday through Friday per vehicle.
Parking fees are $5 per hour, Saturdays and Sundays per vehicle.
Parking fees are enforced daily from 7 am to 5 pm during the peak beach season of March 1st through September 7th.
Free parking for youth recreational sports will remain available at Chaplin Community Park (Burkes Beach Access).
Beach parking fees will be enforced at Chaplin Community Park (Burkes Beach Access) from 7 am to 5 pm, beginning May 19th and through September 7th, following the end of the youth sports season.
Individuals with registered handicap placards and/or license plates may park for free at all beach parks in spaces reserved for handicapped individuals, per South Carolina state law.
Disabled veterans and recipients of the Purple Heart are exempt from the payment of municipal parking meter fees when their vehicles bear a disabled veteran's or Purple Heart license plate issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. A new parking privilege has been added to certain military license plates that allows free parking in metered areas in SC. These benefits do not apply to military license plates issued before May 6, 2022.
Visitors will pay online through a digital parking application accessed through their phones. Cash payments will no longer be accepted.
Failure to pay parking or other violations will result in citations and fines ranging from $50 to $500.

According to individuals from NOAA, LMMN (Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network) as well as members of Georgia wildlife, once again whales beach themselves for a reason (sickness or injury being a leading reason) the plan as of now for this s***m whale is to put it down tomorrow and conduct an onsite autopsy before assisted burial with the Town of Hilton Head. They mentioned that this whale is approximately 20 tons and this is the most humane treatment the can do for it. It is sad to see but I know they are doing the best thing they can
