Heads up, Hilton Head Island!

The geotechnical exploration required as part of the design for the US 278 Eastbound bridge replacement is scheduled to get underway this week. A barge is scheduled to arrive on site tonight, March 18, with barge setup activities expected to begin tomorrow, Thursday, March 19.

There are no anticipated traffic interruptions, as all work will be barge-based, occurring outside of the US 278 travel lanes.

If the setup goes smoothly, drilling operations may begin that same day. At this time, the work is expected to take approximately six weeks, weather and tide-dependent.
