All aboard the Norwegian Dawn! 🚢✨

This sailing is already off to a memorable start, and not just for the reasons I planned! 😅 It's been wonderful reconnecting with old friends and meeting some fabulous new ones. Sunset sail-away on deck with this crew, and a late night by the rail with these ladies from Syracuse … this is what cruising is all about. 💙

Now for the not-so-glamorous part: I twisted my ankle on the charming (but very uneven!) cobblestone streets of Barcelona. 🙈 Being stubborn, I decided to "tough it out"… and logged over 13,000 steps on it. Probably not my smartest move! 😂

So I made a visit to the ship's medical center. The team was fantastic, and the good news is nothing appears to be broken! 🙌 It's bruised and swollen, so I'm taking it easy, icing, and keeping it elevated.

Travel advisor tip from someone who learned the hard way: European streets are beautiful, but they're no joke. Pack supportive shoes, watch your step, and if you do get hurt, don't walk 4 miles on it like I did! 😉 And it's always reassuring to know there's a medical team right onboard.

Bruised ankle, full heart, and an amazing itinerary ahead. Let the adventure continue! 🌊

What a day in Catalonia! ⛰️✨

We started high above the clouds (almost!) at Montserrat 🙏 The jagged, saw-tooth peaks are even more dramatic in person, and the view from the cross overlooking the monastery took our breath away. Inside, the Basilica was pure magic: gold, blue, and intricate detail everywhere you look 💙💛

Next stop: Oller del Mas w**ery 🍷🍇, a family estate with roots going back to the year 964! Fun fact we learned: their vines are grafted onto American rootstock 🇺🇸🌱. Years ago, this made them stronger against the phylloxera bug 🐛, a pest that devastated European vineyards. Sipping w**e on the terrace with Montserrat on the horizon, plus a tapas board of jamón, cheese, and salami 🧀🥓 and a sweet little dessert 🍰… perfection.

We ended the night dancing at Karma Disco 🪩💃 and then grabbed a nightcap at, where else, Piccola 😂🍸 We had to claim it!

Barcelona, one bite at a time! 🇪🇸🍴

We spent the day with Muriel from Secret Food Tours, and she showed us a side of Barcelona you'd walk right past on your own. Every stop had a story, and every story came with something delicious.

🥐 La Colmena: a beautiful old pastry shop on Plaça de l'Àngel, where we tried a xuixo de crema, a sugar-coated fried pastry filled with custard. Pure happiness for €2.90!

🌰 Casa Gispert: a historic grocery that has roasted nuts in a wood-fired oven for more than 170 years. The smell when you walk in is unforgettable, and the Lleida almonds and Reus hazelnuts are still warm.

🍸 Jai-Ca (since 1955): a true Barceloneta neighborhood bar for a bomba, grilled eggplant, and a vermut, just like the locals.

🥘 And to finish, giant pans of paella with sangria. Need I say more? 😋

Look for the bronze plaques in the sidewalk outside some of these shops. The city places them to honor businesses that have served Barcelona for generations. Muriel's knowledge and warmth made this one of our favorite afternoons of the trip! ❤️
