3rd day in a row of bluefin limits and the hottest bite yet. Yesterday we headed out and instantly found a wide open bite on smaller grade bluefin in the 10 to 45lb range. For a few hours we pretty much got bit everytime we got the boat back up to speed. We started releasing smaller fish and keeping the better ones to fill out client and crew limits( 14 bluefin). Felt more like alabacore fishing than bluefin but there were plenty of 35 to 45lbers to fill the coolers with. We were done pretty early so we decided to do a quick drift over the newly opened section of cordell and pull up quick limits of jumbo rockfish. Overall while we didnt get the biggest size bluefin, it was still an epic day with non stop action and tons of fish. Out of 3 trips this now brings our bluefin total to 34 so far. We are hoping to have some bigger grade like we found over the weekend push back in with the wind coming but will take all the action we can get. We are completely sold out on tuna trips for the remainder of 2026.

Another day of wide open bluefin for us and easy limits for our 5 clients. The grade was a little smaller with about a 45 lb average and a handfull of fish in the 50 to 65lb class but the albacore style action made it just as fun. The bite started slower in the morning but we trusted our gut and did not switch over to madmacs and stayed in the area from yesterday, then they turned on and we put in 5 fish between 930am and 11am with singles and a double hookup, then at 1pm we put in another 5 with another double and 3 singles and made our way back to the dock before the wind kicked up. Overall its pretty epic to have this steady of action on bluefin locally and a really nice compromise steady action and quality. We are off the water for a while as the wind comes back. We are completely sold out for 2026 tuna trips.

While Ryan was offshore, I ran another near shore trip to the south… still couldn’t get connected on the Bonito like Friday, so I kept heading south and did connect on limits of Rockies for 6 clients plus 8 quality lingcod! We then ran back up the line and worked the birds whales and bait for 1 Bonito. If you haven’t had bonito fresh, it’s some of the tastier fish you will find in the Sardini family. Not to be confused with Skip Jack, which is a much bloodier meat… you will want to bleed and ice it immediately, keep any moisture off the loins and pat dry before cutting and eating raw… in short, if taken care of properly, you will be pleasantly surprised at how good it really is! Our first scheduled Bodega bluefin trip of the year started with a bang yesterday, we ended up with limits(10 tuna) for all five clients of 35 to 75 pound bluefin with about a 55 pound average. We started off trolling Madmacs, and after a little while, we found an area with some life and got a fish on, so we switched over to spreader bars and worked the area the rest of the day to pick up the last nine, all on spreader bars. We tried a few other methods, but the bars did the most damage this weekend. Our clients all had some pretty sore arms by the end of the day and walked away with well over 100 pounds of bluefin each. It is a great start to the bluefin season for us after a lot of wind kept us off the albacore grounds in ft bragg for several weeks. We are looking forward to what this crazy El Niño has left to offer us.

Had a private party of 4 yesterday in socked in fog… the kind of socked in, that you couldn’t see the next set of channel markers heading out the inner bay of bodega… Had high hopes of monster Rockies on some tiny Rock piles I tend to produce big canaries on… after 3 stops it became apparent that it was going to be a much longer day than anticipated.. After a fish per spot average, we finally shifted to bonito. Gage Vogler , a friend of Ryan and myself, pointed us to the general location he got em good the day before. I ran through this numbers with no success… at that point, I turned the gain up on the radar and proceeded to head towards any hard targets that looked worth checking. In short, one paid off with 17 bonito out of that area… once we filled the yeti 210 with a slurry of bones, we ended up at the light house and proceeded to get limits of Rockies and 6 lingcod!! Today we fished with the Lagge family… Today consisted of no fog, and many birdnadoes to try our luck on, but ended with no bites… having eager children onboard, we proceeded down to the light house and limited on a great grade of blues for clients, as well as, half crew limits, plus 1 lingcod, with many other missed opportunities… In the end, two fun nearshore days of fishing with great clients… Both boats back at it tomorrow, stay tuned for Captain Ryan’s bluefin report… he’s probably posting it as I write this!

Haven’t posted in forever… not due to lack of fishing, just burned out on the whole social media thing…. Had to Locke it in for this group though. Good times with repeat clients is what keeps the lights on! Thank you Brian and the boys, we ended up with yet another well rounded bag of tasty treats! ~Cpt Josh Bodega Tackle

A Fort Bragg charter boat landed 165 albacore in four days, capped by a rough-weather trip full of 25 to 37 pound jumbo tuna.

Ft Bragg Albacore season is officially wide open. Four days of fishing resulted in 165 albacore, every day we fished until the clients had all the fish they wanted

Tuesday:We headed out with a two-client private charter. The fishing was a little slower, but we found some fish and worked an area and picked up 15 fish on the troll and maybe five or so on the jigs. The grade was really good, about a 22lb average.

Thursday: We headed out and found a few birds. Significantly more birds moved in overnight and completely gave away the location of the fish. Birds and fish were jumping for miles. Smaller fish, but wide open as it gets. We got 50 in the boat, then put the troll rods away and focused on jigs, ending with 70 fish, and about 40+ of them coming on jigs. 8lb average; we were back to the dock by 3.

Friday: went to the same area. No birds, green water. There was blue water inside and outside, so we headed outside. Got some big fish in there, but action overall was slow. It took a few hours, but we found some terns working on fish, then all hell broke loose. Got 35 fish in two hours, and the clients were happy with that amount of fish by 2pm. so we headed in with 45 total. The first 10 fish were 20 lbs. the last 35 were mostly 10lbs. We made some really good slide stops with probably 20 jig fish.

Saturday:We had a private charter of three. The weather bad. The forecast showed 5 to 10 knots offshore, the wind was more like 15+. Ocean was nearly unfishable, even with rain gear. I decided to turn back and fish the temp break closer to shore. I was getting tossed in my tuna tower, but still spotted some birds struggling in the wind. We rolled through them and had every rod on the boat going. Repeated 9 ways quickly stacked us up to 31 fish. The best part was the size; all jumbos. Our smallest was 25 lbs on the scale, and the biggest was 37 lbs and the average was 30. The fish were the biggest I've ever seen in September. Massive hookups with giant fish in rough weather kicked all of our butts, but it was by far the best day and honestly, one of the top days for me personally.

We are booked full entirely for albacore season.
