Camino 2017. I'm learning about the word "Moors" since it is used all the time when traveling the Camino. I suspect it isn't an optimal word these days; I'd love anyone else's wisdom on this. I'm learning about the "moorish invasions of Spain" from the perspective of Saladin, the hero of the Islamic World during the Third Crusade. The phrase "Christian invaders" makes a very important point. "Spain" was home to Islamic people for 800 years before the Christian invaders. Since we will be walking amidst "Moorish villages" in southern Spain, I want to be a bit wiser about all of this by the time we are there. Anyone else curious? Definitely on my radar........(didn't even know it existed until our trips through the Pasayten and there they were; one or two, lean, fast moving thru- hikers; one kind enough to assist us to find the mysterious campsite we'd been assured would be there; some wilderness areas are better mapped than others; apparently the route we were on was 'mapped' by men on horseback. So.. y'know... give or take a few miles, very accurate)
