Big doings this week at the Bonaparte Pottery! The Great River Rumble was here to start the week with a splash. More individualized classes and teaching pottery skills are filling up the week days. Saturday is the last Raku firing celebration for the summer! Be there or be square!

Come pick out a piece of pottery to glaze with your own inimitable style! Help load and smother the pottery pieces as they are placed into and taken out of the kiln. Watch the glowing hot clay placed in a bucket to smother for flashy and colorful metallic finishes. See and use feathers and horse hair artistically applied to hot pots for high contrast black and white designs.

Great party for beginners and studio potters alike. Hot dogs and s’mores provided. We set up at 9:00. Firing by 10:00. Shutting it down in time for dinner at 7:00. Come enjoy the experience and watch as the river flows past the back of the pottery. We are sure to have folks floating by on the river as pots heat up, smother, and cool down all day at the Bonaparte Pottery!

After the storms that rolled through our county last night Marilyn made an inspection of the property and museum building. Everything was ok! What a blessing!!

A historic barn north of Keosauqua was sadly lost by the tornado. 🙁
The roof off of the historic Buggy Factory in Farmington lost it's roof.

We treasure the history here in our county. Please plan a visit to our Historic Pottery building Circa 1875, and our county.

There was a great weekend of raku pottery firing at the Bonaparte Pottery on Saturday. Dozens of gorgeous pottery pieces were the result of playing with “fire”works down by the river. Good times with good folks enjoying the raku process while sitting in the shade watching people floating and boating on the Des Moines river only a few feet away. It’s a tough life but someone had to do it!! 😀

Come join us next time we celebrate raku on August 4. Bring lawn chairs to enjoy the view, the cool breeze off the river, and the shade while the raku process unfolds. Hope to see y’all on August 4
