Joe Shannon loved Ireland. Joe also created Mountain Home Music (MHM) to encourage and share Appalachian music with the rest of the world some 26 years ago. Joe was an accomplished musician and teacher, and developed the concert series that now bears his name, Joe Shannon's Mountain Home Music. His love of the roots of our musical heritage led him to his ancestral homeland, Ireland, and he took many of his friends and musical family along with him in informal tours of the Emerald Isle, a tradition that continues to this day.

In fact, next summer we will be making our fifth trek to Ireland to continue Joe's quest of finding our musical heritage and visiting the places that inspired those musical traditions. Led for the fifth time by Irish storyteller, performer, and tour guide since 1991, Mr. Batt Burns (www.battburns.com), we will tour some of the traditional Irish attractions and spend a couple of days in a small Irish village, Sneem, soaking up the culture and beauty of this lovely country.

Our adventure runs from June 25 - July 6, 2020 and we invite you to consider travelling with us. Most of our tour consists of non-musicians who love to experience the beauty and culture of Ireland, while those of us who do play music enjoy the opportunity to listen to and play with the Irish musicians we will encounter in our hotel or in pubs.

Ireland 2020!

In conjunction with Mountain Home Music, Irish storyteller and host, Batt Burns, we are happy to announce the 5th tour of Ireland in 2020! We do not have specific dates set as of January 2019, but are in the preliminary stages of planning our adventure.

As always, we will feature Irish music and dance, in addition to our visits to historic and beautiful sites. Musicians are especially invited to play and create music, and the opportunities to jam with Irish musicians, as we do with every one of our previous trips, remains a highlight.

Ireland - 2020 Following a tradition established by Joe Shannon, founder of Mountain Home Music 25 years ago, we are planning still another musical tour of Ireland in 2020. With both musicians and traditional music enthusiasts participating in these tours in the past, and led by a well-known Irish storyteller and travel consultant, we sight-see by day and are entertained in the evenings with traditional Irish music and dance.

These trips have been scheduled for the Fall, when the weather is still good and the tourist season has ebbed. However, we are also looking at the possibility of a summer trip...stay tuned!!

Interested in Ireland? With participation of Joe Shannon's Mountain Home Music (MHM) members, our Irish host, Batt Burns, will lead 25-30 folks on a tour of Ireland this Fall. The trip runs from 19-29 September 2016, and has generated a lot of interest, even though the brochures are still at the print shop! This will be the fifth tour of Ireland, and promises to be the best so far.
