You can eliminate all of these problems by installing the RV Comfort Systems CheapHeat™ Hybrid Electric furnace. The CheapHeat™ Hybrid is a UL Listed, RVIA compliant heating system designed for a 100% duty cycle and can added to most RV furnaces with minor modifications.

Space heaters can be a quick way to heat up a room. However, they can be as dangerous as they are convenient if used improperly. Space heaters cause 25,000 home fires a year, and 6,000 emergency room visits, according to the Harvard University Environmental Health & Safety group.

If fact, Harvard University reports there are thousands of home fires in the U.S. every year from electric space heaters, many of which are due to being plugged into power strips or lightweight extension cords. While most of these fires occur in bricks-and-sticks homes, there are significant numbers of fires in RVs caused by using electric space heaters to supplement the ineffective gas furnaces in many RVs.

***ANOTHER HAPPY CAMPER***

I had to do a little research to make sure my figures were correct. In November of 2011, I purchased an RV Comfort Systems CheapHeat modification for our motorhome. The system was installed and operating by mid December. We have been delighted with the engineering, reliability and performance it has provided as we have put more than 10,000 miles on our 2006 Minnie Winnie.
We have used it in temperatures of zero degrees and lower in the Midwest and the Northeast and on cool mornings in Texas and Florida. We use our motorhome during all seasons of the year and therefore do not winterize it. Living in Iowa, this requires a dependable source of heat. Before installing CheapHeat, I was the local propane dealers best customer. Since installing CheapHeat, I have filled the propane tank once in 18 months (actually only had to add half a tank)!

Unfortunately, the power sometimes goes off during Iowa snow storms. With CheapHeat, the flip of a switch returns the heater to propane operation and continued warmth for our plumbing. Not only inexpensive operation but redundancy when needed.
From an operational standpoint, CheapHeat is quieter, more even, and of course less expensive than propane operation. From a quality standpoint, it is top flight and I speak as a licensed aircraft mechanic and electrician.
If we ever replace our motorhome, you can be assured it will have a CheapHeat system in it!

Thanks Larry for a great product!

RV Comfort Systems partnered with Airstream to use their new CheapHeat™ All Electric RV Furnace to heat the custom designed Airstream RV hotels, at the luxury AutoCamp resorts. These Airstream’s will be placed throughout the US in the AutoCamp luxury campgrounds system.
Because of the CheapHeat’s unique design, their RV Electric Furnace is able to do this on the standard 50 amp shore power service currently used by most RV manufactures. During this design process, the RVCS design team was able to help Airstream design the ducting system to provide their largest RV with a balanced heating system front to back, even at outdoor temperatures as low as 10 degrees.

When talking about heat output, remember that a gas furnace is only 60% efficient, 40% of the heat goes out the flue. But an Electric heater has no flue so its 100% efficient. So this means a 40,000 btu furnace has only 24,000 btu output.
Additionally a gas furnace has a 60 sec pre-purge cycle and a 90 sec post-purge cycle. Which means that for every heating cycle there is 2 1/2 minutes of run time with no flame (heat). After taking into consideration the 2 1/2 minutes of no fire each heat cycle, along with the efficiency issues your true output into the coach with a 40,000 btu gas furnace is about 20,000 btu when measured at the register.
The 100% efficient CheapHeat™ DH50 has a true 17,500 btu output to the register (Add-On or Stand-A-Lone) or just under 90% of a 40,000 Btu gas furnace output.
All of that being said because the Gas Furnace is NOT UL certified it is not required to meet the same standards as our elect. We are not allowed to have an internal temperature of 200 F Degrees. The gas furnace people run theirs at 250 F Degrees with no overheat fail safe like our fusible link.
