Professor George Rhee will be discussing the current state of the Colorado River and Colorado River Basin Climate during a presentation at the Boulder City Library. This discussion will take place on Thursday, September 24 starting at 6:00PM and is expected to last approximately one hour. The community is encouraged to attend this FREE educational event. Lake Mead National Recreation Area is excited to be one of Leave No Trace’s Spotlight locations for 2026. The Leave No Trace traveling team will be at LAKE October 29-31, and we have an exciting schedule to share with you.

We’re kicking the Spotlight weekend off with a Trivia Night held at Boulder City Adventure Center from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Whether you are new to Leave No Trace or consider yourself an expert, join us for this interactive game night to gauge your knowledge of Leave No Trace practices and principles. Participants will also learn tips and techniques to help protect Black Canyon and all your favorite outdoor spaces. Don’t miss this chance to participate in fun stewardship trivia and win some cool prizes!

Important- if you have friends or family in the canyon, the NPS is asking for assistance.

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUESTED

The National Park Service is asking the public to provide information for more than 20 individuals who may be missing or unaccounted for following a significant flash flood in Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area on August 29.

If you know of hikers or backpackers who were in the Bright Angel Creek corridor on August 29, or if you had a campground reservation in the affected area, please contact the NPS Investigative Services Branch (ISB).

This includes people who may have been:
• Traveling the North Kaibab Trail from the North Kaibab Trailhead to Phantom Ranch
• Staying at Bright Angel Campground or Cottonwood Campground
• Traveling through “the Box” north of Phantom Ranch

Last month, we announced that Lake Mead National Recreation Area was selected as part of the 2026 Leave No Trace Spotlight Program. We are even more excited to share a complete schedule of activities to help celebrate the upcoming Nevada Day weekend!

October 29 – Leave No Trace Trivia Night at Boulder City Adventure Center in Las Vegas
October 30 – Pop-up Education with the LNT team at Arizona Hot Springs trailhead
October 30 – Campfire Program at Boulder Beach Campground Amphitheater
October 31 – Volunteer Stewardship Project on the Goldstrike Canyon trail
