Important- if you have friends or family in the canyon, the NPS is asking for assistance.

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUESTED

The National Park Service is asking the public to provide information for more than 20 individuals who may be missing or unaccounted for following a significant flash flood in Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area on August 29.

If you know of hikers or backpackers who were in the Bright Angel Creek corridor on August 29, or if you had a campground reservation in the affected area, please contact the NPS Investigative Services Branch (ISB).

This includes people who may have been:
• Traveling the North Kaibab Trail from the North Kaibab Trailhead to Phantom Ranch
• Staying at Bright Angel Campground or Cottonwood Campground
• Traveling through “the Box” north of Phantom Ranch

Last month, we announced that Lake Mead National Recreation Area was selected as part of the 2026 Leave No Trace Spotlight Program. We are even more excited to share a complete schedule of activities to help celebrate the upcoming Nevada Day weekend!

October 29 – Leave No Trace Trivia Night at Boulder City Adventure Center in Las Vegas
October 30 – Pop-up Education with the LNT team at Arizona Hot Springs trailhead
October 30 – Campfire Program at Boulder Beach Campground Amphitheater
October 31 – Volunteer Stewardship Project on the Goldstrike Canyon trail

Wildlife blends. You have to pay attention. These images were captured by Alecia Robertson, a guest on our Bighorn Classic trip. Not often do you see a fox hiking in Gold Strike.

It looks like a grey fox but could be a kit fox. Any wildlife experts out there?
