After plenty of miles offshore, it was time for an upgrade. Palm Beach Pelagics is adding Fraser S250 stabilized binoculars to the boat.

The Fujinon’s aren’t going anywhere and will still be on board for guest use. More optics means more chances to find birds offshore.

Another strong day offshore Palm Beach today with at least four Black-capped Petrel observed, including a pair that circled the boat at close range for roughly 35 minutes. Band-rumped Storm-Petrel and Wilson's Storm-Petrel showed exceptionally well around the slick, alongside four Bridled Tern and three Sargasso Shearwater. Most observations were at point-blank range, with several storm-petrels passing within just a few feet of the boat.

Another outstanding Palm Beach Pelagics double header this weekend.

Calm seas, excellent visibility, and steady bird activity throughout the weekend.

Highlights included 10 Bridled Terns, 5 Sooty Terns, 4 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, a Band-rumped Storm-Petrel, 3 Sargasso Shearwaters, Red-necked Phalaropes, and multiple migrant passerines offshore including Northern Waterthrush and American Redstart. A Little Blue Heron 16 miles offshore added another memorable moment.

Photos from the weekend below including Bridled Terns, Band-rumped Storm-Petrel, Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, and Sargasso Shearwaters.

Our spring schedule is full and summer schedule is filling quickly. Offshore birding is excellent this time of year with tropical species, storm-petrels, shearwaters, and migrating songbirds all possible on the same trip.

We’ve upgraded.

Palm Beach Pelagics is now running a new Garmin radar system on the boat. It improves visibility on early runs, helps us track activity offshore, and adds another layer of safety when we’re pushing out.

Only two spots left for May 31, and the summer schedule is filling fast.

Due to strong demand for the weekend of May 30, an additional trip has been added for Sunday, May 31.

Bridled Terns are on the move. We observed over a dozen in a short period of time, including these two very cooperative individuals enjoying a brand new wooden pallet.

These offshore terns are always a welcome sight and a good sign as we move deeper into spring migration.

We’re running trips every Saturday.
See you out there. 🌊🐦
