Can you spot the elk?

Mammoth is a popular spot in Yellowstone for elk herds to hang out, enjoying the succulent grass of the well-irrigated lawns. We may not be allowed to walk off the boardwalk, but they can go where they please!

Check out those antlers!

It’s only July, and this elk has an impressive set already. He will keep growing them (up to an inch per day 😮) until late August/early September. Then, he’ll strip the velvet off of them against tree trunks, ready for the rut!

We look forward to seeing him in the fall! 🦌
