“.... as we started ascending, something calming and soothing begins to fill my inner self. Even in that slow pace walking up the hills, it becomes enjoyable and brings back memories from my childhood, where we grew up in a mountain setting... the clincher was actually reaching the top, and to look around the beauty of the place, the nature the feeling of being on top made me more relaxed and rested! If I have another opportunity, I would definitely go back to those places again!”
Rev. Abellardo, R. Pastor, Adelade, Australia

“If you are looking to learn a little something and have a great time at the same time, then Calma Expeditions is a great way to go! Rus is a great guide. He makes sure you are all prepared for the day and also brings extra snacks. The kids loved the Snickers bars! Rus makes sure you are safe and all stay together. "From historical tours and trips to trail hikes and mountain treks, Calma Expeditions give you the experience of what history passed on to our generation and what blessings we have from mother nature. In a very short tour of two hours my wife and I stepped on the Plymouth soil where the Mayflower docked and the first Thanksgiving was celebrated.. The cape cod canal, full of history and the town of Sandwich MA, where the marshlands are well protected. You will really appreciate preservation of history and nature when touring with Calma Expeditions." Elmer Demayo. Engineer

What an incredible few days of adventure, history, and friendship!

Calma Expeditions was honored to host wonderful young people as we explored some of New England's most beautiful and historic destinations.

Our journey took us through Plymouth, Massachusetts, where we learned about the Pilgrims and the early beginnings of America. We then visited the charming seaside town of Sandwich, the oldest town on Cape Cod, known for its rich history and scenic beauty.

The adventure continued with a nice walk along the breathtaking Cliff Walk where the spectacular Atlantic Ocean views met the grandeur of Newport 's Gilded Age mansions. Then we proceeded to have lunch by the waterfront at one of our favorite restaurant in Newport, Rhode Island. It was a perfect opportunity to appreciate both nature and history while creating lasting memories together.

At Calma Expeditions, our mission is to bring people together through adventure, education, environmental awareness, and cultural exchange. Every expedition is more than just sightseeing—it's about learning, building friendships, and experiencing the beauty and history of the places we visit.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this expedition such a memorable experience. We look forward to many more adventures together!

If Trees Could Talk

As I walk along the forest trail, the air grows cooler and the noise of the modern world fades behind me. Beneath my feet, fallen leaves and pine needles cushion each step. Around me stand silent giants—trees that have witnessed decades, perhaps centuries, of changing seasons, storms, droughts, and human history.

Forests are more than collections of trees. They are living communities that breathe with the planet. Every leaf captures sunlight and carbon dioxide, helping to slow the accumulation of greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. The forest is one of nature's most effective climate allies, quietly working every day without recognition or reward.

As I hike deeper into the woods, I wonder what these trees would say if they could speak.

One old oak, scarred by lightning and time, might tell a story of resilience:

"I have endured storms that bent my branches and winters that froze my roots. Yet each spring I grew new leaves. Nature teaches that survival is not about avoiding hardship but learning to adapt."

A towering pine might speak of patience:

"I did not become tall overnight. Decades passed before I reached the canopy. Growth is slow, but every year matters."
A fallen tree covered with moss might offer a different lesson:

"Do not mourn my fall. Even in death I provide life. Insects, fungi, birds, and seedlings depend on me. In nature, endings become beginnings."

The forest also speaks to our health. Scientists have found that time spent among trees can lower stress, reduce blood pressure, improve mood, and encourage physical activity. Long before modern medicine measured these benefits, people instinctively sought peace and renewal in nature.

As hikers, we enter the forest as visitors. The trail invites us to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with rhythms older than civilization itself. Here, success is not measured by speed or possessions but by awareness—the song of a bird, the scent of pine, the pattern of sunlight filtering through the canopy.

The trees remind us that climate change is not an abstract concept. They experience it directly through changing temperatures, shifting rainfall, invasive species, stronger storms, and prolonged droughts. Their annual rings record environmental history like pages in a living book.

Yet the forest offers hope. Every tree planted, every habitat protected, every child inspired to appreciate nature becomes part of a larger story of stewardship.
As I leave the trail, I carry with me a quiet message from the forest:

"We have stood here for generations, cleaning your air, protecting your water, storing carbon, and sheltering life. Walk gently. Protect what remains. The future of the forest and the future of humanity are intertwined."

Perhaps the greatest gift of hiking is realizing that we are not separate from nature. We are part of it. The forest is not merely a place we visit—it is a community to which we belong.

And if trees could talk, they might simply ask us to listen.

So, come with me/us and you will see..

🌍✨ A Bridge Across Continents: Connecting Namibia with Bridgewater State University ✨🌍

Yesterday, September 17, 2025, Calma Expeditions had the distinct honor of facilitating a powerful and promising connection between Rev. P.A. Schmidt Primary School in Namibia and Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts, USA.

This collaboration is a direct outcome of our expedition to Namibia earlier this year, where we were deeply moved by the dedication of local educators and the needs of their students, especially those requiring special education support.

🤝 In a virtual meeting brokered by Calma Expeditions, Mr. Daniel Gawaseb, Principal of Rev. P.A. Schmidt Primary School, along with his passionate staff, engaged in a meaningful exchange with Dr. J. Edward Carter, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Special Education Department at Bridgewater State University.

The focus of the discussion: Building bridges of support, consultation, and collaboration—to uplift and empower students with special needs at Rev. P.A. Schmidt.

🌱 This is just the beginning. Together, we envision a future where knowledge is shared freely across borders, and where every child, no matter where they are born, has access to the support they deserve.

Calma Expeditions is proud to play a part in sparking this international partnership grounded in empathy, education, and equity. Stay tuned for more updates as this journey unfolds!

✨ From Marsh to Global Impact: A New Collaboration Begins in Sandwich, MA ✨

On August 15, 2025, Calma Expeditions has the privilege, to bring together David J. DeConto (Director of Natural Resources, Sandwich, MA) and Dr. Tom Goreau (President, Global Coral Reef Alliance and Chief Scientist for SIL ) for a tour of the Sandwich Marsh & Oyster Culture Project.

This meeting has sparked a new collaboration to apply Biorock Technology—a groundbreaking method that enhances marine growth and resilience—to strengthen local marine restoration.

Marshes are vital carbon sinks, and Sandwich has one of the healthiest in Massachusetts thanks to its natural filtration system. Proud that Calma Expeditions helped make this connection happen. 🌍🌊🌱
