This (long) post will be both as a tournament director....and a father.
Tournament Director post first. To all the Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Manitoba, and Ontario athletes that continue to make the trip to MJBT events, I truly thank you. I also thank you all for the Fathers Day card and balloons this morning. It put a smile on my face.
To the parents that trust their children and athletes to hone their craft at MJBTs, that means more than you all realize. I am grateful for the friendships and laughs that I have shared with you all. These times make tournament weekends something to look forward to each month.
Without both of those aformentioned groups, there isn't a place for youth bowlers to test their skills, not only against their peers or a lane pattern, but also against yourself.
Singles competition is feast or famine... the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. You learn more about yourself than you all probably realize at this point of your life and bowling "career".
Now as a father and parent. Running these events, I didn't get to watch my athlete compete early in his MJBT career as much as I, or any parent, would have wanted to. As his skill increased and he began to make "the cut", I obviously got to see him more often.
That leads us to this weekend and today. I am beyond proud of how my athlete performed this weekend. Would a win capped off father's day Absolutely. But, what I am most proud of, was the sportsmanship he showed his opponent, who had just clinched his first title, by giving the "bro" handshake and hug when it was clinched. Blake...I am proud to be your father...the best is yet to come.
