FUN FACT! We are out of the office more than 1/3 of the year! 🚗 WHY? No amount of preparation compares with walking in the steps of our travelers, long before they do.
Plus, some of our travel includes workshops, trainings or meetings in niche subjects with the hopes of finding new potential partners in new locations! One such expedition of discovery is underway right now! Our CEO Tara shared some notes from the road,……
“little did I know when I left teaching for a career in travel I was signing up to be the forever student!
Much of my job is gaining expertise and experience to share with our travelers!
Sometimes this happens through structured research, networks, happenstance or good fortune, and also from industry conferences - such as the one that kicked off just outside of Lisbon Sunday. With travel colleagues & friends from Hungry, Spain, Bulgaria, Brazil, UK, & Italy, together we are on a deep into the world of Portuguese mainland wines! 🍷
Wines are more than just a compliment to a great meal! In the context of travel, I see wine as an opportunity.
The world of wine offers travelers access, to get personal with local people working to keep traditions from being lost.
Take Portugal as an example. There are over 3000 small producers. It’s not uncommon that “small” literally means a single family! A travelers visit is an invitation into the family home; down to historic cellars, walking old vines, and tasting their dear creations.
Especially important (in my opinion) it’s a way into the lives of a family ~ sharing stories, family lore, past traditions and the dreams of the next generation working to keep it all alive.
Making wine is a risky business, much of the process can’t be controlled, economically it’s tough to survive just by producing wines on a small scale. That’s where tourism can be a force for good!
🔄 travelers gain an insiders perspective, and authenticity while their visit helps these producers to keep little wineries from closing their doors, or getting absorbed into mass production.
Wine tourism done right is a win-win, and why my global colleagues & I love to connect our travelers with these places, people & experiences”
