Okay, El Dorado Royale really did the Royal Retreat Deluxe Garden Suite rooms justice. 🤩

If you stayed here before, you remember the gold era: scrollwork headboard panels, the gold bed skirt, the mandala art, the yellow chair by the TV. It had its moment.

The renovated rooms bring a calmer, more natural look: warm wood bed, a macramé wave over the sofa, soft cove lighting, woven pendant lamp. Honestly - love them and I feel like these rooms match the overall vibe of El Dorado Royale much better than the old ones.

I’ll leave a photo of the old rooms in the comments, for comparison sake.

Waking Up Here Would Heal Me A Little Bit I Think
That’s not just the on-screen text. That’s also just… the truth!!

THIS is the Garden Suite Double at Hotel Xcaret Mexico, and it is doing A LOT of things right.

You’ve got the jetted tub sitting right there in the room.
A massive vanity with that bold pink wall behind it.
Two queen beds, a full sitting and dining area, and folk art on the walls that actually feels intentional, not just random decorative filler.
And then there’s the balcony 🤩
Hammock. Pool views. That turquoise canal winding through the resort below you 😍

I spend my days planning trips to some of the most beautiful corners of the world. Beaches you save as your screensaver. Resorts people plan a whole year around. It’s genuinely one of my favorite things on earth to do for people. 🌍

And if I’m being honest, it’s easy to get so carried away with the adventures far away that you forget about the ones sitting right by your house.

This weekend reminded me.

One of the most magical things I’ve watched all year didn’t happen on a far-off beach. Or at Disney World - because his last Disney trip was December of last year, and his next one is later this year. It happened at SEA LIFE Aquarium at American Dream, 20 minutes from our front door, with my 18-month-old’s hands pressed flat against the aquarium glass.

He pointed at every single fish like he was the first person to ever discover them. Diligently watched the jellyfish swim around. He stared down a shark and didn’t even flinch. The stingrays glided by and he gasped, that real, full-body, can’t-contain-it kind of gasp that only a toddler has. Tom Nook and Isabelle got the same wide-eyed wonder (yes, it’s an Animal Crossing aquarium tour, his people 🦝). And then he sat at a grand piano with his grandma and “played” a song like he owned the building. 🎹

I watched him the whole time more than I watched the fish. Because that face, the one where the whole world is brand new and impossibly exciting, that’s the thing I’m actually chasing when I plan anyone’s trip. The awe. The moments of “wow”.

And standing there it hit me all over again.
You don’t always have to fly over an ocean to find it.

Funny enough, this was technically his second aquarium. The first was Coral Reef at Epcot, but at barely 1 he was mostly there for the snacks. This time he could run. And he ran for every tank.

Sorry to everyone we cut off 😅

So yes, when you’re ready for the big one, the bucket-list, fly-across-the-world trip, I’m your guy and I will pour my whole heart into it. ❤️

But this week?
Don’t wait for the plane ticket.
Take your kid to the aquarium down the road.
The little museum.
The trail behind your house.
The wonder is exactly the same.
The passport is optional.
I promise you’ll remember their face. And so will they. 🐠

Maybe the closing of Playacar Palace was more a blessing than a curse. Granted this area usually tends to get hit harder with sargassum than others, but WOW. Looks like a carpet from the 70s.

The rumors are true. A cartel has taken over the Riviera Maya and I’m going to be the first to name them.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗺 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗹.

They’ve been running the beaches for weeks.

Their demands are simple:
- The beach is theirs
- You WILL relax by the pool
- The swim-up bar is non-negotiable
- Resistance is futile (and honestly kind of pointless because the pools are incredible)

They’ve been spotted forcing tourists into swim-up bars at margarita-point. Eyewitnesses report being handed cold cervezas against their will and made to float for hours. Truly tragic scenes.

The good news: almost every resort we work with has a counter-sargassum-cartel squad on payroll with sunrise crews out there raking, hauling, and returning the “brown gold” to the sea. By breakfast, most beaches are workable.

The better news: you’re at an all-inclusive in Mexico. Your worst-case scenario is a pool day with unlimited drinks.

Don’t negotiate with the Sargassum Cartel. DM me if you want help picking a resort that handles sargassum well. Some are dramatically better at it than others, and I know which ones.

I’m going to say it. Contrary to any opinions. Contrary to what the fan groups and review websites might say.

There are no bad resorts in Mexico.

So bear with me for a moment before you crucify me in the comments . Not every resort is trying to be the same type of resort. Some focus on affordability, some focus on food, some focus on families, some focus on party vibes. A resort that might be too loud and lively for someone might be EXACTLY what someone else is looking for.

So before you just focus on the reviews and the fan groups online, ask what YOU want out of a trip. Because a one-star review that says “too quiet” is a five-star review to the right person.

The best resort in Mexico isn’t the highest rated one. It’s the one built for the vacation YOU’RE trying to take.
