We are on Wall Street and a customer asks me: " Do you know where the Continental is??"

Of course! Wait, I should say "yeah"...

Anyway, Google Maps can outsmart in a second plenty of us tour guides.

When you look for any possible and imaginable movie locations, the info is out there. Just say the word, and now even Claude & friends will answer, also gifting you with an itinerary of your favorite big screen moments. Jonathan, "what have you done..."

So "yeah", the Continental, the fictional hotel on whose grounds no assassin can conduct their business, is at Pearl and Beaver (the streets).

But what...

What if you are looking for something more, maybe a material sign from the man, some evidence of his notorious focus, commitment and sheer will?

Maybe not quite the orthodox and proper thing to do at the end of a lovely walk with your clients. And it's probably flagged as inopportune in every handbook for the Perfectly Polite and Professionally Proficient Tour Guide. But not so unusual, at least for myself, taking pictures during a tour. Yes, I'm talking about a private tour where I AM the guide.
“You see??”, I almost chirped while pointing at the Chrysler Building. “That's what I mean when I say that we can slow down, and look for small details that are hidden in plain sight. We are standing here, at this corner on Lexington and it looks like everyone is running. They are, actually. They are running to Grand Central and trying to go home for dinner. Can we blame them? No. But us? We can slow down, and enjoy the skyscraper that every New Yorker loves, not just Peter Parker! Even the traffic light is begging us to stop… This is the picture you wanna take home with you. Your perfect New York moment…”
In that very moment, their smiles made my day.
Time to go home.

Great morning tour.
Cast iron architectural gems in SoHo, mob stories and movie references in Little Italy, chaotic markets in Chinatown, a Buddhist temple, a synagogue, an Ukrainian church, an always charming garden in Nolita, Bohemian memories in the Village.
Last stop, Washington Square Park: between chess players, jazz, old burials and new graduates from NYU.
