Taking a warm winter vacation with the kids??? Be vigilant. Last afternoon, a young boy was swept out to sea, standing next to the water, toes on the shore. Taken by a wave and undertow. He has yet to be found despite rescue helicopters, search divers, and municipal police boats in the water. His Father stood on the shore and watched. So did others. Frozen in fear.
I witnessed the same scenario this May, but three men saved a 5-year-old girl in even more treacherous waters. The parents were preoccupied with their two older daughters while the 5-year-old wandered off. I and another man saw her first and were able to call for support while her parents could do nothing. Teach your children how to swim, learn to swim yourself, and never go out without a life preserve if you don't swim. Saviors can only be everywhere sometimes. Save yourself. (I COULD NOT HAVE SAVED HER. THANKS TO THE BRAVE MEN WHO COULD.)
Since Hurricane Maria, many beach warning signs have not been replaced. Almost a dozen drownings a year in PR, many children.
