Last night: dinner and shopping (window-shopping, really) at the Spanish Steps.

Today: discovery that everything is closed on Monday.....except churches! We saw the Church of St. Gregory the Great, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, with side chapel to St. John of the Cross and his tomb. There was an added bonus of a Roman house beneath it. We were unfortunately inhibited by lunchtime closures. San Clementi was closed for lunch as well, but we did get into St. John Lateran, which everyone agreed was awe-inspiring and, as Tessa put it, "really cool." Half the group made it to Santa Maria degli Anglei, but the rest of us are heading up to the Piazza delia Repubblica in a few minutes for the evening. Pictures of the day's events to follow!

Our first day was great, but so packed that most of us had little energy to do much today. Yesterday was a tour of the Colosseum, a really thorough tour of the Forum, a quick visit to the Capitoline, which we will see again, the Pantheon,, the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's. The Vatican was crowded like I've never seen it, and we were really rushed through, but I think we were all still really moved. Today, Sunday, some of us went to Mass Santa Maria Maggiore, and now we are headed out to the Spanish Steps for the afternoon and evening.
