With all that His Joshua House does for our community-at- large and in their work, how can the community support the amazing work and programs here at His Joshua House? His Joshua House’s biggest ongoing need is financial support - housing costs, the cost of services, and insurance have tripled in the last few years. In April 2024, His Joshua House invested in major repairs to their facility and the home for these men in their program. They expanded their residential square footage to increase their capacity to serve from 8 men to 14.

One of the best ways you can help support the tremendous work of His Joshua House is by attending the Freedom Feast Dinner and Auction on June 27 from 3 to 7 PM! Dinner tickets are $25, and raffle tickets are $10 per ticket or 6 raffle tickets for $50. “Freedom Feast is our biggest fundraiser of the year, often bringing in half of our annual budget, “ said Dr. Thompson. “It is a critical event for us to meet the rising costs of the program and provide the care and skills these men need to return to society sober and productive with a plan that supports sober living.”

To support His Joshua House, please consider attending Freedom Feast, their fundraising event of the year. Event and raffle tickets may be purchased by contacting Executive Director, Donald Thompson, at 830-953-0769 or emailing him at [email protected]. You may also contact Board Member, Paula Moody, at 737-284-8690 or come by the Lake Buchanan/Inks Lake Chamber of Commerce/Visitor Center starting on Friday, June 19th - Friday, June 25th to purchase your event and raffle tickets!

Refuge Night starts with food and fellowship, followed by music and a spiritual message at 7 PM. Every Christmas, His Joshua House opens its doors to host a holiday dinner for anyone in the community who wishes to attend. Anyone in the community is welcome to attend. For more information on 12-step meetings, Refuge Night, or any other program or community event, please contact Donald Wayne Thompson at 830-953-0769.

His Joshua House's success - 25 men on average complete the program successfully each year - is their dedication to addressing the men’s needs while in recovery and providing them tools, skills, and resources to continue their success beyond the residential program. The foundation of His Joshua House’s program is faith-based treatment and the 12-step process. Additionally, practical needs are addressed, including legal issues and assistance in getting identification, their driver’s license, and/or their social security card. “Many of these man don’t have what to most are practical, every day items, in their possession when they come here,” says Dr. Thompson. “We make sure they are set up for success in life, success in actually living their lives.”

Community service is a requirement of the program, as is finding and keeping employment. Residents may stay up to a year for free, and the money they earn goes into savings or towards a vehicle and other practical needs. From there, residents may transfer to a transition program that may include low-rent housing options, which allow them time to apply the critical skills they learned at His Joshua House to the real world.

To support His Joshua House, please consider attending Freedom Feast, their fundraising event of the year. Event and raffle tickets may be purchased by contacting Executive Director, Donald Thompson, at 830-953-0769 or emailing him at [email protected].
