Your help is needed. Please read and take action!
Hello! We are the BV Tree Coalition and we want to make sure you know what’s happening with the electric company’s plan to cut down trees in Buena Vista. We’re asking for your help to save a massive amount of trees by making 2 simple phone calls (or emails) AND by forwarding this message to 5 friends!
😬🌲👎 THE PROBLEM: Sangre de Cristo Electric Association (SDCEA) plans to clear cut 1,000s of healthy trees that pose NO RISK to electric utility lines and no increased risk of fire danger. About 97% of trees to be destroyed are on PRIVATE PROPERTY & we need to convince the town to help protect homeowners. Mass tree removal is set to start January 1, 2024 but we can stop it with a huge public outcry to bring common sense and good stewardship to save the trees. Sangre says it will cut down to stumps ALL trees in 30 ft or more wide strips along 18 miles of transmission lines in BV forever changing the nature of this town.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP TODAY:
✅☎️🌲 1. CALL SDCEA 719-395-2412 - Tell them not to destroy healthy, nonhazardous trees! Demand clear, specific rules for public notice. Ask to minimize damage to trees on private property as required by the franchise law. Ask for a written plan describing the PURPOSE and scope of the project, that analyzes best practices in the industry including burying lines. ✅☎️🏘️ 2. CALL Town of Buena Vista (719-395-8643)- Ask WHY are you leaving homeowners out of your oversight of Sangre? Ask to make the new Sangre permitting rules apply to cutting trees on private property trees, not just public. Ask town to enact clear, specific rules for public notice. Ask to enforce the law that requires SDCEA to minimize damage to trees and natural features on public AND private property. Ask Town to require Sangre to submit a complete Plan with time for public comment before commencing the destruction of 1000s of trees.
