The European hotel research spiral is a special kind of exhausting because the more time you put into it the less confident you feel, and at some point you realize you have seventeen tabs open and a worse sense of what to do than you did two hours ago. 🙃

There's a version of Japan that smells like salt air, where you're eating ramen at 8 am and thinking I never want to leave (!!)

Annnnnnd there's the version where you're exhausted, overscheduled, and wondering what all the fuss was about.

The difference is just knowing a few things first.

LIKE:

⭐️ A day or two in Fukui to visit artisan workshops and chant with Buddhist monks in the mountains.

⭐️ that getting out of the Golden Route changes the whole feel of the place

⭐️ skipping a sumo show - unless you can get tickets to an actual match, they're incredibly cheesy and touristy.

I am back from Japan and WOW what an amazing experience that was. 🏯🎌

From Tokyo Disneyland all the way down to Kyoto, I got to see and do so many unique things. The culture of Japan was truly remarkable, but it was the PEOPLE that stole my heart.

I met so many lovely folks along the way - a bonsai master, grandmas that taught me to roll sushi, a washi paper maker, a crafter of Japanese knives, even just the staff at every hotel - they were all so friendly and so eager to show us around and make sure we enjoyed ourselves. 🍡
