Burlington Segway Tours We offer Segway® tours of the waterfront and downtown Burlington historic sites. See www.burlingtons Then it’s off on the tour.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Both tours start at our shop at 277 Pine Street in downtown Burlington. After viewing a 10 minute training tape our staff will provide hands on training with each individual until all guests are confidently operating their Segway. THE ONE HOUR TOUR

The One Hour Tour begins at Perkins Pier, the birthplace of Burlington, and proceeds up the bike path to ECHO and the boathouse, Wat

erfront Park and the fishing pier. Witness breathtaking views of the Adirondack Mountains from high on the bluff at Battery Park. Our historical narrative will take you from the birth of Burlington in 1783 to the present day. THE TWO HOUR TOUR

After the tour of the waterfront described above we proceed up College Street into downtown Burlington visiting the birthplace of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, the Church Street Marketplace and UVM before returning to our shop via Main Street.

The new PBS documentary From Rails To Trails premiered in Boston on October 14. It will now air on PBS stations throughout the country. The first airing in our area on Vermont Public (channel 6) is October 18 at 4:30 p.m. There will be others. Check listings. It will also be available on the PBS app and at www.pbs.org/show/from-rails-to-trails .

The documentary is the story of how the rails to trails movement has transformed communities nationwide. It's based on Peter Harnik's 2021 book: From Rails To Trails, The Making of America's Active Transportation Network. Peter worked for the Tails to Trails Conservancy sheparding reclamation of abandoned rail projects across the country to successful trails over the past 40 years.

A section of the documentary was shot here in Burlington. They interviewed Howard Dean and I and got shots along the Bike Path and out to the Causeway. They even filmed a ride on the bike ferry.

The legal case that came out of our efforts here in Burlington went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1990. It allowed the conversion of the abandoned rail line in Burlington's New North End into our Bike Path over the objections of an adjoining land owner. That ruling has allowed thousands of miles of abandoned rail lines to be converted to multiuse paths nationwide.

Check it out.

Check out this photo of 3 adult geese and 11 chicks sunning themselves at Perkins Pier on Sunday. They were all eating new shoots of grass. We gave them a wide birth. But the adults put on an impressive show creating a protective bubble around the checks. It's good to know that a family of geese can thrive in Burlington harbor.
