The community was originally settled along the banks of the Cumberland River and called Isabel Point, allegedly for a woman named Isabel who jumped off a nearby cliff after breaking off a relationship. The town was renamed for American Civil War General Ambrose Burnside who established a camp there during the war. In the 1950'

s the entire town was relocated for the impounding of Lake Cumberland. American author Harriette Simpson Arnow grew up here. Burnside is believed to be home of the first Boy Scout troop in the United States. In 1908, two years before the Boy Scouts of America was officially organized, Mrs. Myra Greeno Bass organized a local troop of 15 boys, using official Boy Scout materials she had acquired from England. An official state historical society marker commemorates the troop.

Free pool on Mondays. Open mic on Tuesdays. Line dancing on Wednesdays. Karaoke on Thursdays. Live music every Friday and Saturday. And on Sundays? Just a patio, a cold drink, and nowhere to be. 🍺

That's a normal week at Lucky Pint Irish Pub and Kitchen — Burnside's only Irish pub, family-friendly til 10pm and a dog-friendly patio all the time. We caught up with owner Amanda McAuliffe to hear how she built it, and one story about her that genuinely surprised us.

Better Bakes by Savannah will be set up at Thunder Over Burnside on Saturday, September 5, from 3–10 PM! 🎆

I will be bringing some tried and true traditional sweets including brown butter cookies, brownies, banana bread and one of my higher-protein, lower-calorie treats! I’ll have something delicious waiting for you!
