Before we head off to our next HUGE adventure next week (you’ll want to stay tuned and follow along for this one!), I need to step back to our last trip and finish sharing some of the amazing things we learned.

Following our Croatia cruise, we had the opportunity to spend several days in Italy, exploring some resorts and towns and experiences for our clients. One place, we will definitely NOT be sending anyone to. (And this is exactly why we go experience fly-infested, smelly, old castles - so you don’t have to.) But another…WOW…

Castelfalfi in Tuscany has stolen our hearts. The resort is a true 5-star luxury property, and was named a Michelin Two Key hotel in the first such list of distinctive hotels established this year. It includes an estate with activities such as winery and olive oil tours and tastings, golf courses, an adventure park with zip-lines and falconry, kids club and activities, cooking classes, and an amazing, tranquil spa. Everything is meticulously cared for and purposefully planned and detailed, such as the fragrances that were custom-made to fill specific spaces in the resort. Service and food were impeccable. It had a Disney-esque feel to it in my opinion in the sense that everything was so well run and intentional, music was piped in throughout the property, and you could easily spend multiple days there and not run out of things to do. (But no crowds or screaming kids, so think about the best part of Disney.) This is not going to fit into everyone’s Italy trip, especially those first-timers who want to keep moving and see all the things. But it is fantastic for those who are looking for a few days to relax, be pampered, and get away from crowds within their larger Italy experience. Absolutely no hesitation in booking this one and we WILL be back ourselves!

Sailing on a small ship for a week with 34 others, all with different backgrounds, beliefs, and social tolerances, sounds like a scary proposition, doesn’t it? Not for these guys. When I say our New Destinations Together Croatia group was the best group ever, that’s not an exaggeration. Not a single issue. Everyone mingled with everyone, showed true concern for each other’s well-being, respected each other’s time and privacy level when needed, and just had a load of FUN!

Life on the Swallow during our New Destinations Together Croatia cruise earlier this month was sweet. We spent mornings swimming in the crisp, clear waters of the Adriatic Sea and then drying off in the sun while sharing laughs and awaiting our 4- (really 5-) course lunch. We grazed on a leg of pršut (Croatian prosciutto) on demand all week long, and indulged in sparkling wine and oysters and mussels delivered fresh to our ship from the local farm as we sailed by. We were treated to family recipes and cuisine at our Captain’s Dinner, followed by dancing the night away. Other nights, we simply gathered on the top deck to share stories of our discoveries in town that evening. Lastavica Cruising and the crew of the Swallow takes great pride in their work and their ship, and their care allowed us all to enjoy a carefree week.

Can’t finish out June without catching up with my travels this month! First few posts will be highlighting our New Destinations Together Croatian cruise aboard the Swallow, with Lastavica Cruising.

Croatia is a beautiful country with even more beautiful people. We explored Krka National Park and found scenic waterfalls. We strolled through the tiny village of Primošten and danced with the locals after discovering a wine festival there. We learned the histories of ancient cities like Split and Šibenik, and the military history of the island of Vis. You see, Croatia has a little bit of something for everyone.

I am very excited to announce that Michael Musso has officially joined the New Destinations Travel team as a travel advisor. Many of you know I have been trying to convince my husband for some time now to join me in the business. He has finally embraced his natural tendency to research the destinations we visit and impart the knowledge gained, now using his superpower to benefit our clients. Michael is particularly interested in helping those travelers seeking more adventurous itineraries and those looking to enjoy the wine and cuisine of various cultures. Whew, you guys kept me busy last year! I was still able to fit in some of my own trips - sometimes for industry meetings and conferences (Turks & Caicos, Puerto Rico, Washington DC, Los Cabos), sometimes escorting NDT groups (Alaska and Italy), sometimes for research (Croatia), and sometimes I actually got to travel just for fun (France, Chicago and Virginia).
