The last long weekend of summer lands in Calistoga at exactly the right moment. 🍇

Harvest is underway. Picking crews are in the vineyards before dawn, the crush pads are running by mid-morning, and by afternoon the whole valley carries that unmistakable scent. It is the most anticipated month of the year in wine country, and it only happens once. Labor Day weekend is the front door to all of it.

Every cottage at The Atlas is spoken for this weekend, and we could not be happier about who is here. But harvest runs through October, and the weeks after Labor Day are when the valley quiets down and the season really settles in. If you missed this one, the next one is waiting.

We love hopping on the complimentary Atlas bikes and heading downtown for shopping or a meal, or grabbing the Atlas backpack and water bottles and heading out the door to hike on the Oat Hill Mine trail. There are hundreds of wineries to visit within a 15 mile radius and the owners are happy to put you in contact with the best drivers in the valley. Music in the Vineyards is mid-season, with world-class musicians performing at storied estates including Inglenook, Hudson Napa Valley and Charles Krug through August 23. Concert by evening, Calistoga by day, and a soft place to lay your head waiting for you back at your cottage. 🎻

The best table in Calistoga might be the one in your own private yard. Chef Paul Fields shops the Saturday farmers market, builds the menu around what's ripe that week late-summer tomatoes, stone fruit, ripe eggplant, the bounty that the valley provides. Chef cooks just steps from where you'll sleep. No reservations, no drive home.

Calistoga has a sushi bar now, and we're craving rolls. Five Senses opened this summer on Lincoln Ave with Chef Spencer Conaty (previously at the helm of Morimoto, Atelier Crenn, Saison) rolling a seasonal menu just a few blocks from your cottage door. Dinner at the bar, then a slow walk home to your patio for an end of summer sunset. That's the whole itinerary. 🍣
