The grounds at Stonefield Castle are gorgeous with wonderful woodland walks and a beach to explore. Some found lots of bits of sea glass washed up, we found a few jellyfish, we blessed with a beautiful rainbow and had a couple of seals join us!

Thursday morning was a later start to the day so many in the group spent time exploring the grounds and enjoying the woodland walks at Stonefield Castle where we have spent the last 3 nights.The staff are some of the best in the industry, accommodations comfy and cozy, the food is top notch, views from the dining room are breathtaking, and the castle/house itself is homey. I don't think any of us want to leave on Friday morning!

Thursday was our day to explore the community owned Isle of Gigha. We had another fabulous blue sky day. Smooth ferry crossings, beautiful photo stops, some in the group had a pre-lunch snack of ice cream made on the island - a unique peat and bramble flavor was available at the local store - followed by lunch at the Gigha Hotel and then a wonderful wander around Achamore Gardens. A stop in the harbor town of Tarbert for a little shopping time before returning to our castle hotel for the evening wrapped up the day.

Wednesday morning we had decent weather to start but then the day turned really soggy and even a bit windy at times. Some great photo stops along the beaches on our way down to Campbeltown. We had a few hours to explore this adorable town and then toured the Springbank Distillery. We nixed a few of our planned afternoon sites due to the weather but it was still a great day of sightseeing!

After 3 days of fabulous blue skies we were due for a bit of rain. A soggy day didn't stop us though! We enjoyed a visit to Duart Castle, the seat of Clan MacLean. A fabulous example of private ownership and the challenges and success of owning such a property. A ferry crossing from Craignure on Mull to Oban put us back on the mainland. A super quick lunch in Oban and then into Kilmartin Glen. One of the most important archeological areas in all of Europe. In a 6 mile radius are 800+ ancient sites. Rock art, cairns, standing stones, stone circles, hill forts and more, dating back thousands of years. It is truly mind numbing at times to just ponder the amount of history that is in this one tiny area. We ended our day at our home for the next 3 nights, Stonefield Castle hotel - pics of that tomorrow, when hopefully weather is a little bit less soggy!
