Whether you're coming into town for or just paying Camden a visit, there's plenty of ways to enjoy this gorgeous fall weekend. Start Thursday evening with live music at Steeplechase Sports Bar & Grill, karaoke at Broad & Vine or line dancing at Eagle's Nest Bar. Catch a glimpse of the Homecoming parade downtown Thursday and a proper tailgate Friday evening. Friday is also the opening of "The Rocky Horror Show" at the Arts Center of Kershaw County, with a "prom" prior to the late night production. Old McCaskills Farm's Fall Family Farm Day is on for Saturday, after you stop by the Kershaw County Farmers Market for some local goodies. Simply Revolutionary hosts a coffee tasting Saturday. And Saturday evening gives you two chances to get dressed up and party the night away, at the Bock Estate with Fostering Foster Animal Rescue and at City Arena for a Homecoming Weekend Fashion Show. There's more live music to be enjoyed Saturday night at Greener Pastures Brewing Company and Beavers Den at Beaver Creek bar and grille, or R&B karaoke at Gallery 537. And finish your weekend some Halloween fun at Historic Camden Foundation or a soulful dinner at Gallery 537.

Another full weekend ahead, don't let that rain get you down! Start with Blankets & Bands on Town Green, and more live music throughout the weekend, including a special tribute to local legend Rusty Davis Friday at Silver Leaf Cigar Lounge. The 3rd Annual Southern Gothic Festival has a full schedule of events Friday and Saturday. The Arts Center of Kershaw County holds a free screening of Hamilton Friday evening and the final performance of "Shock" on Saturday. Old McCaskills Farm hosts their annual Fall Family Farm Day Saturday. Sunday includes another Camden Boutique & Craft "Bruch, Brews & Makers" market at Greener Pastures Brewing Company and One City One Voice concert on Town Green (rain location Mt. Zion Church on Monroe St.). And Silver Leaf Cigar Lounge holds another Mahjong & Mules evening for open play.

Weekend straight ahead and plenty to do! 🥳As all weekends do, we begin Thursday evening with live music and a lovely night to be out on the town. 🎶 American Patriot Coffee Company kicks off October with their Kids' Fall FunFest Friday afternoon. 🍂Kershaw County Farmers Market hosts Food Truck Friday, and don't forget the weekly market Saturday morning. 👩🏻‍🌾 Friday is also the start of the weekend long SC Music Festival on Firetower Road 🔥 and the world premiere of "SHOCK" at the Arts Center of Kershaw County. 🎭Take the littles out for a Day at the Museum at the Simply Revolutionary Visitor Center and then on to Touch-A-Truck 🚒 with Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department. Or, check out the Mustang & Ford Car Shows at Potter Park in Elgin Saturday. 🐎 And finish off your weekend with a little history, courtesy of the Kershaw County Historical Society. 🧑‍🏫

✨ Trivia Tuesday, anyone? 🧠📜

⁉️ DYK that nearly 250 years ago, two units of North Carolina militia troops set up camp for several months right in our backyard outside of Camden? ⛺🌲

Here is the fascinating history behind it:

👀 The Threat: After the British failed to take Charleston at the Battle of Sullivan’s Island in June 1776, revolutionary leaders in North and South Carolina panicked—worried a massive counter-offensive would hit the South from the sea or via Florida.

🎬 The Action: On November 23, 1776, the North Carolina Provincial Council voted to raise two special emergency regiments: the 1st and 2nd Battalions of Volunteers. Commanded by the Halifax District Brigade of Militia, they marched south.

🏕️ The Camden Camp: Arriving in late 1776 or early 1777, these troops set up a semi-permanent training and drilling camp just outside of Camden, spending months marching, drilling, and bracing for an invasion.

✨ The Outcome: While a direct British invasion didn't happen right then (as the British turned their focus to Pennsylvania and New York in 1777), these troops served as a vital deterrent and rapid-response force!

👋 The Farewell: By April 10, 1777, the camp's purpose had dissolved, the regiments were officially disbanded, and the men headed home to North Carolina.
