We spent the morning in downtown San Jose with volunteers from Fledgewatch 2026 observing the four young falcons that just left their City Hall nest hours before. An exciting time for us and their parents - Hartley and Monty.

In partnership with the Belize Bird Conservancy we are going back to Belize this summer. Participants gathered at the Los Gatos Birdwatcher lastnight to ask questions about the upcoming tours and learn about the conservancy from Ryan Phillips - local educator, birding guide and founder of this non-profit.

We had a Let's Go Birding bird walk at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum this morning. We had a great morning and all want to go back!

In celebration of World Migratory Bird Day we scheduled a Let's Go Birding tour this Saturday, May 9 from 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum & Botanic Garden. We have a few spaces open - call the Los Gatos Birdwatcher to sign-up 408-358-9453. $30 plus entrance fees. Details will be provided

I am doing a free workshop tonight at the Los Gatos Birdwatcher from 6 - 7 PM. The topic - "Field Marks". We have plenty of room. These monthly workshops are a fun way to improve your birding skills. This morning we had a bird walk at West Valley College before joining all the fun at the California Native Plant Society’s Wildflower Show. It’s such a beautiful campus filled with native plants. We’re viewing two Cedar Waxwings in the scope.

We spent Saturday morning at Coyote Lake Cty Park in Santa Clara Cty. It was a beautiful day with lots of wonderful moments from rushing Grebes, to Bald Eagles, Western Bluebirds and a wintering sapsucker. It was the first time one father & son had ever been birding. They did great!
