🎉 Yes, I scored non-stop, round-trip flights to Orlando for under $300 last night! 🎉
As someone who spends a lot of time helping families plan vacations, I get asked all the time:
"How do you find the cheapest flights?"
✈️ Here are My Favorite Airfare Hacks ✈️
While there's no magic formula, these are the first things I check every single time:
✅ Search in an Incognito/Private Browser Window
Whether it makes a difference or not is constantly debated, but I still do it. It keeps previous searches from influencing my browsing experience and gives me a clean slate every time.
✅ Start with Google Flights
It's the fastest way to compare airlines, dates, and airports all in one place. The calendar view makes it easy to spot cheaper travel days.
✅ Look at Tuesday and Wednesday Departures
If your schedule allows, these are often some of the least expensive days to fly. A one-day shift can sometimes save hundreds of dollars.
✅ Be Flexible with Your Dates
Instead of deciding, "We're leaving Saturday and returning Saturday," check a few days before and after. You might be surprised by the difference.
✅ Check Nearby Airports
Sometimes driving an extra hour can save enough to pay for a hotel night, airport parking, or a fun excursion.
✅ Always Book Directly with the Airline
This is probably my biggest tip. Third-party sites may look cheaper upfront, but when flights are delayed, canceled, or changed, dealing directly with the airline is almost always easier and less stressful.
💡My biggest piece of advice: Check airfare first, then build the vacation around what gives your family the best value.
Travel is expensive enough these days. If you can save a few hundred dollars before you even leave home, that's a win.
