Promoting the Lincoln Highway, our effort will strengthen education, increase tourism, and encourage economic development along America's first coast-to-coast paved road. Conceived in 1913 by industrialists to begin a robust auto era, and to get the government's attention that roads would soon be a normal way of travel, the Lincoln Highway was America's first "rock" highway created by connecting existing local roads and paths and improving them to provide a coast-to-coast highway, and dedicated to President Lincoln.
