I began learning saber w two time Olympian Maestro Ralph Faulkner in 1972 and have never stopped training and refining. I also train and teach Japanese sword for the last 16 years (still train 3 days a week) and I invested over a decade training FMA w G**o Dan Inosanto. His teachings continue to inspire me every day.
The bladed arts are a very rewarding journey

Here is a bit of the legacy of this bust and Maestro Faulkner’s many gifts of knowledge and precision with the Blade.
This ‘Champions are made, not born. He made them,’ was displayed at Falcon Studios throughout Maestro Faulkner’s life and then rescued by his long time student international saber champion Carlos Fuertes. He and I were winning teammates at CSUN in 1972 and went on to train together at Falcon studios for many years.
Carlos went on to run thé saber competitions at thé 1984 LA Olympics. Thé bust was at Westside Fencing Center where I continued my saber training w Master Ted Katzoff then briefly at Swordplay when Carlos was teaching there.
Carlos gifted Faulkner’s bust to me as one of Maestro Faulkner’s long time legacy students training since 1970.
I do my best to share the vast knowledge I inherited by continueing to train, teach and refining my skills daily.
Maestro Faulkner continues to define and inspire my work every day and I am forever grateful for his knowledge and generosity.

I’ve lived and worked throughout LA since 1967. I love California and I love living in this town. My last apartment was across from the Hollywood Bowl for 18 of 25 years living in the heart of Hollywood before Dr Mary and I built Rancho Indalo in Canyon Country. I know and love all these fire ravaged places like old friends. They have inspired and sustained me for decades and I feel their loss deeply. I know many of you feel the same. Our hearts go to you all. We need to come
together for each other now more than ever.
Please stay safe. Please reach out where you can.

Dear Combat Con Friends,
Next year will be better and we will be back with new skills and updates, hope to see you then.

Doctor Mary and I, and Dan Trout are so disappointed we’re not able to see you all and share the refinements with whip and bladed weapons we’ve been exploring and honing since last years Combat Con celebration.

It’s been a bit frantic at Rancho Indalo the last couple weeks. We had to bid farewell to Latigo our 28 year old wonder horse, introduce a new horse to her forever home and re-home another equine rescue we’d been working with.

We pressed on and our friend and whip partner Daniel Trout flew in to film KNIFE / HAWK / AX THROWING STRUCTURE & TECHNIQUE last weekend. Dan is also the wonderful DP and editor who filmed BULLWHIP COMBATIVES AT MULTIPLE RANGES my martial collaboration with GM Ron Lew last year. It’s great and I highly recommend you check it out at www.buymeacoffee.com/anthonydelongis
Filming went great on our new Throwing video and we look forward to sharing that work with you soon.

Then life threw us a bean ball curve.

I was at SD Comic Con yesterday for a Mattel Celebrity Panel to introduce designs for a new Masters of the Universe BLADE figure, lots of fun, while Dr Mary and Dan drove in from Rancho Indalo w Whips, Japanese swords, kali sticks, knife trainers and all the tools we’d need to teach our glasses.

Alas by the time I flew in from SD both Dr Mary and Dan had tested positive for Covid. I was hoping for the best but I too tested positive last night.

I was so looking forward to sharing whip and weapons refinements I’ve been honing but it would be irresponsible of us to risk your health. We had our latest covid booster two weeks ago so our symptoms are mild. We’re currently resting in our room with our friend Tracy. We had a lovely visit in the hall with masks to get our copy of Stephen Fick’s new book THE SECRET LANGUAGE OF CONFLICT, looks great.

Derek Taylor stopped by to get my opinion on some of his new whips which I highly recommend.

We are continuing whip lessons and refinements in our room and you are all in our thoughts and hearts.

Have a wonderful Combat Con. We miss you all and look forward to seeing you next year. Stay healthy and creative.
