The Guadalupe River from Canyon Dam to New Braunfels is open for recreational access, with current flows nearing 100 cfs. Favorable weather conditions are anticipated for this upcoming weekend. This stretch is home to many family-run river outfitters, campgrounds, and lodging options who are ready to welcome visitors with the same hospitality that has made this area a favorite for generations. Small businesses and their employees along the Horseshoe and River Road are the heart of our river community, and they rely on the support of friends, neighbors, and visitors to stay in business.

Recent flooding in the far upper Guadalupe River watershed above Canyon Lake has deeply impacted many communities, and our hearts go out to all of those affected by this tragic event. Separately, approximately 12 days ago, the lower Guadalupe River below Canyon Lake experienced localized impacts from heavy rainfall. This flooding below Canyon lake was unrelated to the tragedy upriver.

Crews have been actively working to remove debris and navigational hazards from the lower stretch of river, spanning from the Canyon Dam to Gruene. Water quality testing has been conducted at multiple points on Canyon Lake, with results confirming conditions are well within acceptable standards for contact recreation. However, visitors should always exercise caution in natural waterways, as currents, debris, and contaminants can pose risks.

Please note that upstream conditions along the upper Guadalupe River, West of Canyon Lake, are markedly different. Flow rates remain elevated and debris removal efforts are ongoing.
