TURTLE TUESDAY! 🐢🐢🐢

In honor of National Safety Month, this is a reminder that we are in the middle of sea turtle season, and the turtles appreciate safety, too! Visitors and residents must be on high alert to protect these turtles and their nests.

- Don't touch or disturb nesting turtles (it's illegal...).
- Fill any holes you leave on the beach.
- Use designated walkways and crossovers; don't step in the dunes (also illegal).
- Don't litter!
- Keep your lights off. Lights disorient turtles and can cause harm to nests and hatchlings.
- If you see a sea turtle in distress, call the Sea Turtle Preservation Society's emergency hotline at: (321) 206-0646.

Sun, Space, and Sea Turtles! ☀️🚀🐢

🌊 Last year, more than 53,000 sea turtle nests were counted on the beaches of Brevard County, making our beaches one of the most significant locations for sea turtle nesting.

🐢 With four sea turtle species coming here to lay their eggs, residents and visitors need to be aware of how to make nesting easier for turtles. Here's how you can help:

💡 Lights out: Keep our beaches dark, turn off lights, and close those beachfront curtains after 9:00 pm. This means NO bright white flashlights on the beaches either.

🏖️ Make Way: Remove all toys, chairs, umbrellas, etc. from the beach at night to provide nesting mothers with a clear path to nesting.

🏰 Flat is Beautiful: Flatten sandcastles and fill in any holes so nesting moms and hatchlings have a clear path.

Whether you’re a local or one of the thousands who will be visiting for the historic Artemis launch, let’s make sure these four species have a clear path to nest and the sea. 🌊
