Antarctica is a Desert, true or false?

Answer: TRUE

Antarctica is technically the largest desert on Earth. Deserts are defined by their extremely low precipitation rather than temperature. Antarctica receives an average of less than 25 cm (10 inches) of precipitation annually, making it drier than many hot deserts.

Here are a few fast facts about the Antarctic Polar Desert~

~ Size: Spanning roughly 14.2 million square kilometers (5.5 million square miles), it is nearly twice the size of the Sahara Desert.

~ Precipitation: Interior regions receive as little as 5 cm (2 inches) of snow per year, while coastal areas average about 16.6 to 20 cm (6.5 to 8 inches).

~ The "Dry Valleys": Some areas, such as the McMurdo Dry Valleys, are completely ice-free and are considered among the driest places on the planet.

~ Ice Accumulation: Despite receiving so little moisture, the snow that does fall rarely melts, building up over millions of years to form the massive ice sheets covering 98% of the continent.
