A Light with a Story
We love preserving history through repurposing unique pieces that carry the stories of a perhaps forgotten past. Throughout our adventures, we collect items like this one, knowing that one day they will find their perfect place again continuing the stories they were meant to tell.
This fixture is no exception.
The shade is an authentic milk glass schoolhouse light, carefully salvaged during the renovation of a historic school building constructed in the early 1900’s in Staunton Virginia. The school opened in 1912, with portions of the buildings dating to approximately 1915. These classic shades originally illuminated classrooms and hallways, lighting the way for generations of students and teachers.
In later years, the property took on a new chapter when it was purchased by the renowned Statler Brothers Gospel Group, who used the buildings as their headquarters. Nearly two decades ago, during renovations under Grace Christian School’s ownership, the fixtures were removed and thoughtfully stored in the attic, where they remained safely preserved.
Our friends at The Lamp Goods recovered these during preparations to sell the historic property, this shade was given new life by their creative team and now once again is lighting a space where stories are shared, memories are made, and new chapters unfold.
