America By Road

America By Road America By Road travel journal blog. Exploring America, starting from the nearest road. We enjoy capturing our memories through images and words.

The purpose of America By Road is to act as a dynamic journal of our travels and adventures as we take advantage of a couple of America's amazing commitments to its people: great park systems and an amazing network of roads. It is fun to reflect back on some of our trips, and it is even more fun to share them with friends and families. If you happen to have stumbled in here without having met us f

irst, feel free to explore. Maybe you will see something that sparks your interest in the same spirit of adventure that we have fallen in love with over the years.

Need road trip ideas? Music City Bricks made this awesome map to help you find all the LEGO related shops and fun in the USA. If you notice one is missing, don't comment on this post, submit a report in the contact form on the map page.
We visited around 30 of these locations so far.

If you discover a new store from our map and visit them, spread goodwill. Tell them you heard about them from the Music City Bricks store map!

Just a reminder that our country was built by immigrants and their descendants. It always bothers me when people who are descendants of immigrants want to prevent immigrants from having a shot at the same great opportunities and freedoms that America has to offer.

It's National Hispanic Heritage Month Between September 15th and October 15th! We are celebrating the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans. We wanted to take this chance to highlight a couple of our staff members here at Fossil Butte National Monument.

Katelin Reyna-Galindo is our Biological Science Technician. She helps manage the invasive species on the monument. When asked what working for the National Park Service at Fossil Butte means to her, Katelin says "Coming to Fossil Butte and working as Biotech means bringing a unique perspective while looking at diverse environments while maintaining its cultural heritage and ecosystems. Working in natural resources for me means giving voices to latina women."

Tano Jose Palazzo is a seasonal Interpretive Ranger. He loves working with fossils and discussing all things paleontology with our visitors. When asked about his love for paleontology Tano says "As someone who's always dreamed of pursuing paleontology as a career and is currently doing so, it is to my understanding that the field isn't currently very diverse. Paleontology, and science as a whole, can greatly benefit from the minds of people from all corners of the world working together!"

As followers of this page, you know we've taken quite a bit of time off of the road to pursue other life interests. However, we've never lost the urge to explore. So when something cool came to our hometown, we had to go check it out. Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville is hosting a fabulous LEGO® sculpture exhibit. It's there until September 5th, so we encourage you to go too! More information about garden tours is available on their website.

In our travels, we saw many repurposed interstate bridges used as animal crossings as well as Rails-to-Trails projects to convert old transportation infrastructure into nature and recreation areas.
Check out this project if you value these types of efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Repurposing of infrastructure is a trend in the United States and other parts of the developed world. What is deemed “old” becomes “new,” and in turn enhances quality of life, opens up investment opportunities, and transforms communities. The Bison Bridge is a concept like no other currently...

Melinda wrote a book and it has just been published on Amazon. It's a fictional account of three months of our road trip. Much to the disappointment of Stosh and the kids, they are not featured in the book. However, their adventures are! The book is available in both kindle and paperback formats. We hope you enjoy reading it!

Just like everyone else, we've been stuck at home, working on projects around the house. However, the itch to travel and explore has not subsided. So, we are trying something new beginning this school year--field trips to local attractions and places. Our first trip was to a local goat and sheep farm. The two young ladies who taught us about their animals are sisters. They started their goat and sheep operation when the oldest girl was 13. They are so knowledgeable and talented. Thank you Lenore and Violet for helping us have a fun and educational morning!

This one hits the nail on the head for us. After visiting dozens of battle related National Park units, we did become weary of that part of our country's history. So many lives ended early; so much troop movement...

Years later, a new marker near the 1903 Massachusetts Memorial would commemorate the spot where Sharon’s family had finally reached their fill of Civil War monuments and deep discussions of the minutiae of troop movement.
